260HP Solstice GXP Club Racer
I'm kinda digging the specs. on this new Pontiac Solstice GXP Club Racer that's coming out in the fall. 325 hp... All for $26k +/-. Already spec'd for SCCA and has aftermarket performance accessories already on the market. All you need to do is strip the inside, slap a roll cage in the thing and put some nice R compound tires on it.

And now for the kicker 400hp, 500hp or 600hp Corvette engine.

Wow. This is what you would get if a Miata and a Viper had kids. Please tell me that thing comes with a 5/6 speed only. If you can't drive a stick you shouldn't be allowed to own a car like this!
It's a little heavy (2,900+ lbs) but if you stripped it, I bet you could get it down 300 lbs. There's an aero kit already on the market, as well as suspension upgrades, etc... Heck they already have a very active corp. sponsored website.
Not bad for a 2.0 litre to put out 260 hp. If it could shed some more weight it would be a serious competitor for a Lotus Elise...
Look at this stuff they already have on the market for the car... http://estore.websitepros.com/802805...ntiac+SOLSTICE
Now this is what should have happened with the Crossfire...

is that a concept, or the real thing they're building?? i thought the GXP was quite tuned down from that concept:

Yeah, it appears they are introducing a street version GXP w/ 260 hp and a Club Racer Version w/ 325 hp.

That car exists. I saw it at the saturn dealer here in Hawaii (they were shooting the commercials for it here on Oahu). However (long dramatic pause)...it had a two stroke 40 hp motor in it when it was here...apparently they don't have the motor ready for it yet, so they threw some little motor in it. It was only capable of 40 mph and was pissing a lot of locals off cause they drove it instead of trailering it...

Yeah, I just spoke with the regional rep. for Pontiac and said it is expected mid to late fall... They are thinking of offering a fully stripped model for SCCA Club Racing. 325 hp. If that's the case, it'll destroy a Lotus Exige.
Wow, a 600 HP supercharged LS2? Somehow I think it would be hard to keep a set of tires on that thing for very long...

The point I'm trying to make is that the car has only been on the market for less than 9 months and already you have a base model 190 hp, a turbo GXP street model 260 hp, a turbo GXP Club Racer 325 hp and a 400-600 hp aftermarket hot rod...
Pontiac has already spec'd the car with the SCCA and delivered many vehicles to aftermarket companies to develop accessories... Catbacks, big brake kits, suspension components, etc. Heck, they even thought ahead and offered the removable hard top to get it on the track...
I'm REALLY interested in this thing now... Goodbye Crossfire, Hello Solstice... LOL

As much as I love my Crossfire, I truly think that club racing is not what DC had in mind when they commissioned the car. I believe they designed this car with more mind to the "cool factor" than anything else. They just happened to build this cool car on top of a very capable Mercedes rolling chassis. My guess is that their target demographic was the 40+ year old F.O.G. (Fast Old Guy. You know, the older I get, the faster I was.
)
I would be willing to wager that the enthusiast arm of the Crossfire Owners Group (Hmm... COG. Maybe I should register that) has taken DC by surprise. They were probably expecting to sell plenty of "lifestyle" accessories, but not too many go-fast parts. I don't know if it will be too-little-too-late now, but hopefully DC will open the doors to the corporate coffers and help subsidize a few things. Give me a reasonably-priced way to add about 50 HP (chip, cams, exhaust) and I'm all over it! I really love this car. Give me an excuse to love it all that much more.

Bobs: Well stated, I agree. Perhaps they assumed the car would fit the same niche' as the SLK. A semi-luxury, pseudo sportscar.
I learned my lesson, don't buy until you do your research... That's where I went wrong...
