Default Texas Mile!!

Good place to (legally) see what your car will do in the standing mile:

http://www.texasmile.com/

You also get verified proof of how fast your car is, unlimited runs (depending on turn out), and a chance to see some incredible cars. October had a twin turbo Lambo Merchilago out there along with an r34 skyline and some other rare cars (I believe my brother said that a certain C6 TT Z06 will be out there in March this year, expect 230mph plus from him).

Wow! That's pretty cool. It makes me want to find out if my SRT6 can join the 200+ club.

Anyone have any thoughts on whether a stock SRT6 could do 200+ within a mile? Obviously, I mean stock, but with the electronic limiter removed from the ECU - so I guess that isn't really stock.

You are gear limited to 163mph (give or take a mph or two depending on rear tire swell at high revolution). You would have to go to a taller ring and pinion, then you would be HP limited. I don't believe the SRT has enough cajones to break 180ish mph without some serious mods. You can do the math for yourself to find out:

Frontal Area: 20.56 sq/ft
Coefficient of Drag: .37

Just google top speed calculator (or top speed formula if you want to do the math by hand).

Sorry, that gear limitation is on base/limited. SRT has different gears. SRT is gear limited to 170mph (and it takes 318hp). To hit 200mph would require a 2.65 final drive, 6000rpm and 570hp. Or you can up your rev limiter to 6500, use 2.9 final drive and that would take 500hp (the higher final drive gives more torque multiplication and therefore less HP is required).

Cool info. Thanks!

I tried out a couple of the calculators, and I get 194 mph in 5th gear at 6400 rpm. Of course, that doesn't take into effect horsepower and drag. I didn't find any calculators that take that into effect. I'm not afraid of higher math though. Do you happen to know the equations?

As a side note, I did find out the terminal velocity of an SRT-6 Coupe. Assuming you could keep its nose pointed at the ground as it fell, and that you dropped it from a sufficient height, the SRT-6 Coupe would reach 408 mph before it hit. Now THAT is a fast SRT. And it's stock too!

OK, I found some equations for calculating the amount of horse power (at the wheel) that would be required to balance air resistance (drag) at certain speeds. Or you can think of it as whp lost due to air resistance.

For the Crossfire SRT-6 Coupe, which has a Drag Coefficient of 0.370 and a frontal area of 20.56 sq. ft. here's some numbers:

Speed (MPH) _____ Resistance _____ WHP Req'd
=====================================
30 ______________ 18.4 __________ 1.47
55 ______________ 61.8 __________ 9.06
65 ______________ 86.3 __________ 15.0
75 ______________ 114.9 _________ 23.0
100 _____________ 204.2 _________ 54.4
125 _____________ 319.0 _________ 106.3
150 _____________ 459.4 _________ 183.7
175 _____________ 625.3 _________ 291.8
200 _____________ 816.7 _________ 435.5

Now those numbers don't consider the roll resistance of tires, which from what I've read is significant. I haven't found out how to figure out those numbers. That said, it seems obvious that a stock (not speed limited) SRT-6 (with about 290 whp) is going to top out just shy of 175 mph just due to air resistance.

Closer to 170mph for Brian Brave and I hit 163 before a header leak took me down.

Well the new sport version of the Bugatti Veyron does something like 260-270mph......I'd love to see it's whp lol

Are you saying that I'm still the worlds fastest SRT6?

Yup, about as close as we can get here in the states, although, if I remember correctly, about 10 years ago they did set a statewide interstate speed limit of 75 mph. Doesn't stop me from cruising at 100 when I'm roaming around out there though, and I've never been stopped or even seen a police officer sitting and shooting radar like we have all over the place here out East.

Not to take this thread off subject, but 163 (or 170) seems like it's a pretty low estimate for top speed. I had mine up to 150 and it barely shifted into 5th before it shut down at 155 (well, my speedo read about 158-159 when it shut down, so maybe it's off compared to what the computer sees for speed). By my calculations based on RPM at 155 where mine shut down, it should hit 181 just like SLK32Germany posted.

Oh, and for the record, we were cruising at 80 mph when I punched it and it took almost a full mile to get to 155, so I highly doubt you could get anywhere near a stock SRT6's top speed in a standing mile.

The gearing alone says absolute top speed is 186mph (around there) for the current setup, but that is just bench racing.

As for standing mile v 80mph role, you have to remember the SRT is supercharged not turbocharged. We such much of our torque at relatively low RPM meaning the acceleration is much higher than at 80mph...momentum helps.

BrianBrave has already proven that you can get 160+ in a standing mile, don't think he ever said it was the top speed of the car...the mile just ran out.
