Default Limited slip diff & autocross

I know Waldig uses one, but could someone
explain the advantage of a limited slip
differential for autocrossing with our cars?
Thanks

Simply......a LSD deliveres power to both wheels no matter their amount of friction on the ground.

Imagine you're rounding a hard left corner, and you step hard on the gas. Most of the weight is riding on the right rear tire, that wheel has a lot of friction with the ground. The left rear tire has very little friction with the ground, and starts to spin. with a "open" diff, most of the available power will be delivered to the left tire with little traction. On a LSD...the power will be delivered to both wheels much more evenly, thus the car can exit the corner faster as the power is pushing the car forward with the tire with good grip, not just spinning the tire with no grip.

Outstanding explanation, thank you!
Do you know if this screws with the traction control for
regular driving?

It shouldn't.

During "regular driving" the tires should not be spinning. Our TCS only works when it senses a wide differential between wheel speeds. A LSD should effectively make it so the TCS has to be used even less.

That's great! I'll have to consider the Phantom Grip
group buy that's being set up :-)

I only sent the pumpkin in and not the casing. It does come apart but thats over a year ago and not for the newbees to do. Side washers and bearing seals gotta be pulled, and I reused the seals cause I was really careful. Had a chance to clean the case and glue in a magnet while I was there. Added posi additive also. thanks woody, certainly what I meant, not the whole rear end...took it for granted everyone knew what I meant....it won't be my rear end, it will be a rear end out of a MB I am searching for...

I really, really need to do this, but I don't see it happening for me. I'm just to far away and suffer from too much sun exposure.
