Talking First autocross w/ '05 Roadster

Ran my '05 Roadster (base and bone-stock) in its first autocross today. It was my first autocross in five years. They had me in B-Stock. Can someone confirm if this is correct?

The fastest car on track, a B-Mod LeGrand, was running in the low 40s.

I wish I would have glanced down at the dash to see my top speed. Guess I'll have to do some research to see what my speed should have been with the rev limiter pegged in second gear. The course was such that I never had to shift into third.

I'm happy with the results, given my long break and the fact that these three runs were my first in the Crossfire.

Now I need to find tires & rims! Anyone know if I can or should run smaller rims and tires? Just not thrilled about paying for another set at OEM sizing.

Here's the SCCA classes from 2006: SCCA Solo II Car Classifications: Stock by Class

SRT-6 is in A-Stock
Base is in D-Stock

You kept improving your times . I've always wanted to run some kind of autocross, it definitely looks like fun.

Wow, hardly seems fair to have to go against that go-kart on steroids. Was that what the B-Mod LeGrand looked like? I'd never heard of them. How much power did the one in your autocross have?

Welcome back to AX'ing I'm in my 3rd season but it may be cut short due to the CAA and work.

Actually, SCCA re-classified many cars for the 2010 season.
The SRT6 is now in B stock.

As for tire sizes, I don't know whether or not you "should". Waldig runs 18's all around. It's a bit cheaper and easier to find tires for.

I still run the staggered set, 18's up front, 19's in back but may soon move to 18's all around.

I think it's up to you. Maybe someone else will chime in on this.

Woody, I'm afraid the only way is to have the tires sticking out of the wheel wells. That is if they don't hit with the fender lip. I keep looking at 18's for the rear too but after all is said and done, the extra set of wheels and 19's end up about the same in a 2 or 3 year time frame.

personally i would just run the stock rims (stock rims are pretty light to me) unless you got some money to blow. most of your aftermarket rims are heavier at the cheaper prices and you can get some lighter weight ones for a nice penny (i could be wrong). if ur really into this to compete you can put slightly wider wheels on the stock rims and space them out a bit and lower it or instead of getting rims and tires and lowering the car i would put on a competition suspension. if ur on a budget just run it the way it is or get some nicer summer tires.

On stock suspension and stock rims I've been running Hoosier A6's

285/30/18 up front with 5mm spacers (I do however, think the tires would last longer on a wider rim. I got 57 runs on them before they chorded at the shoulder. A wider rim might have helped.)

298/30/19 on back (98 runs and still going)

No rubbing issues
