Question XF vs. BMW 128i

Which car would win in a race from a stop? 2004 Chrysler Crossfire (AT) or an 08' BMW 128i (MT)?
Driver of the MT BMW is a good driver but isn't totally proficient at shifting like a pro would be.

Any chances? LOL!

Cheers everyone

Seems like a driver's race in a coupe. Slight advantage to the XF in a BMW Convertibile...

...both assuming the XF is a coupe.

BMW 128i Coupe: 230hp/200tq - 3252lbs

Crossfire Coupe: 215hp/229tq - 3009lbs

EDIT: Your automatic will shift faster than he could possibly row his gears

Like Boiler said, get off your asses and line them up. I would say the 128i is the quicker car, but that doesn't mean the driver will beat you. I have seen a stock 128i do a 14.28 @97 at the track, which is a bit quicker than a NA crossfire stock. Spend a little money and do some starting mods and you should have yourself a good race plus you will enjoy driving your car a bit more. Just make sure he isn't sneaky and really has a 135i and de-badged it and put 128i badges on or you will get whooped

Ha! Debaging it? That'd be funny. But really awful once I lost...

Any suggestions to start up mods? Nothing TOO expensive...hopefully...

We're both 18/19 so he can't row his car extremely fast or anything...but he's a good driver in a straight line nonetheless...Is it an even match in everyone's opinion?

Cheers

You're talking as if, by losing, you'll lose something... be it pride, manhood, etc...

When someone wants to race me, if it's even reasonably close I go for it. Winner gets a beer, congrats, and good sportsmanship from the loser.

You're both 19 with nice cars. If he's a second or two faster than you, then lift 50 more pounds than he can at the gym and tell HIM to catch up.

Friendly competition is just that.

Haha, I gotcha. Good advice

Although in all seriousness...I am interested in some start up improvements. I just got some K&N air filters and i know that won't yield any AWESOME performance, but i'm just looking at little steps....for now

The air filters by themselves wont yield you anything you will even feel. A cold air intake that relocates to away from the engine will help you out. If you look for a Needswings single CAI, you can find those without breaking the bank. Eurocharged lowered their tuning price to $400 and that seems to still get 10-15hp to the wheels on the NA, if I recall correctly. Check Eurocharged.com or Needswings.com and find what mods you want to start with and then post up a WTB for used and you can save tons of money. Anyone trading in will take those parts off since dealer wont give you any extra for it. If you are willing to give up your stock parts, and they lost theirs, then the prices get really cheap.GL

Well I won!

First time he kinda miffed 3rd gear and i heard it so I gave him another chance...smoked him the 2nd time too

The 128i is very quick off the start, beats an AT Crossfire hands down before 40mph. After that...no question the crossfire wins, if they miss 3rd.

Make sure you load up your torque converter at the launch. Right before you are ready to go, you can hold the break and give it a little bit of gas...not enough to start the rear tires spinning, but a few hundred rpm gets you to your torque peak sooner.....0.1 of a second is worth .3 in the 1/4 mile cause you carry that extra speed the whole way.
