Default shared the track with a 2011 mustang

Sunday the 24th I attended the last official Solocross event of the season with the CCCPR here in P.R. I finished 4th overall and 2nd in my class. (My class rocks!) I've run all year on R compound tires and for this last event switched to Advan AD08's to get a better feel for what the car needs. (I learned a lot, another thread)

The real news was the 2011 Mustang with the Brembo package. It was a auto. He finished 1rst overall. He was stock. Stock tires too. Did I say he was STOCK? Ford has finely gotten it's act together. He dynoed at 380 rwhp so his weight to hp is better than mine but not by enough to say the power beat me. (my rwhp is 290) The car handles accelerates and stops. He was the only car on street tires that had a faster time. It's a capable machine in the hands of a competent driver. I was impressed.

The other cars that finished ahead of me were a BMW ITS race car, a MR2 with R Compound tires (I was faster than him when I had my Pilot Sport Cups) and a Neon ...... I know .... sucks ...... full race car as well. Cage etc.

I have a couple of videos that I will post eventually so keep your eyes peeled.

I need to call Rob ..... again.

The new Mustangs are hot. It is said that due to the lighter engine that the 3.7L V6 version handles even better than the 5.0. You can get the same handling package on the V6 as on the V8, minus the Brembos, and people are saying the performance package stock brakes on the V6 are just as good.

305HP, 6-speed manual, and sweet handling for about $23K. Not bad at all. I have been tempted, but the only way to get a stripped down V6/Performance Package Mustang is to order it. The dealers only order the high end models that sticker near $30K.

Was it a GT? or GT500? Because I've been lined up against a '11 GT and had no issues whatsoever with it...

I do agree though that Ford has gotten their act together, the new mustangs are decent, though a bit overpriced for performance models. Congrats on the good results from the day as well.

I don't know what it was, it's a Mustang after all, but it was N/A with a 5.0 on the front of the engine, automatic with Brembos and stock tires. This was a timed event and we weren't on the track at the same time so I wasn't paying much attention. I've always looked down the list to find Mustangs and this was a shock. It was afterwards that I spoke briefly with him and he dynoed 380 at the wheels and claims it to be a 2011 bone stock. Whatever he has it handles well, stops well and accelerates well enough on a road course. I'm learning what these Yokohama's need to perform their best and next time I see him ......... I mean to have horse for lunch. But it won't be easy at all. I'm pleased to see Ford getting it together ..... but I can't seem to stop mumbling.

The track-pack set up is excellent and the track-pack pirellis are no joke. Not an R tire but the next best thing. I look forward to putting my 5 year old nearly stock SRT-6 up against one.

I uploaded a couple of videos for those interested. I hope the CrossfireForum viewers enjoy seeing and hearing a cousin doing what it does best.

The new Mustangs have been making some noise on the forums. I keep on hearing good things. The new desing is better than the previous. I wonder how they respond to mods.

if by bad you mean bone-stock, yes it is a very bad car.

i know a lot of work went into the handling of the new 2011 stang.

the TVT2300 SC versions are putting out around 525 hp

they may be getting direct injection in the near future which may increase both performance AND efficiency.

and you can get an even better handling version from the factory, have you guys seen the RTR package?

at the end of the day, our chassis was designed in 1999, and things have come a long way since then, mustangs can do way more than drag race now.
