Default 19HP Loss?

Anyone know for sure where the 19HP was lost from the C32 AMG/SLK32 AMG to the Crossfire SRT-6? The AMGs had 349hp and the SRT-6 has only 330. Is it the software calibration? Or is it just another marketing thing? Or something else? TIA for any info!

Iv'e seen this come up on the forum before and the consensous was that it was marketing. They don't want people to think the Xfire is as powerful as the MB.

Interesting... Not that I trust data published in magazines these days, but the SRT-6 tested in Car & Driver was substantially slower than the SLK32 AMG they tested a few years back. For example, the SRT-6 was tested in the August 04 issue and went 0-100 in 12.4 seconds and 0-140 in 29.0 seconds. The SLK32 AMG did 0-100 in only 10.6 seconds and 0-140 in 22.9 back in the August 01 issue. Pretty big difference for only 19 horsepower, especially when both cars have the same gearing, similar curb weights, etc... Weird.

There are a whole host of reasons why two cars could return different times:

Weather conditions, location, weight of driver & passenger, fuel load, tyre condition, whether the car has been chipped etc.

You can have different differential ratios fitted to improve your acceleration at the expense of fuel economy and top speed. Who's to say that the SLK was running the standard.

Since the RX-8, TT, 350z etc. all have the performance you would expect from their figures, then I would think that a nominal 19BHP would not account for that difference in quoted performance.

The programming in the timing maps are different that is what makes them different the mb has a bit more timing advance compared to the crossfire. I know this for a fact

Also, it is common practice to qoute HP at the flywheel vs. HP at the wheel to advertise a bigger #.... Could it be that the SLK specs are quoted at the flywheel and the SRT is quoted at the wheel ? Probably...

330 wheel hp? I think not, thats just 20hp shy of what the LS2 puts down they put down around 350whp and they are rated at 400. 330 whp would be a good 375bhp.

I think it all comes down to a little de-tuning on the X-fires to keep MB happy. That's why we need the chip.

I can agree with that theres sometimes that a manufacture makes a previous year of car less agressive so that the new models can carry abit more horsepower its just part of marketing
