Hey guys,

I have posted this on the SRT thread as well but thought one of you may have experienced this. My key fob is not unlocking my door. I changed the car battery this weekend. Could that effect the programming of the FOB? Also, the key was not going into the driver's door to unlock and I did not want to force it this morning. Silly question, does the ignition key mechanically open the door if the fob is not working?

These are some of the things I think that could be happening:

1) By replacing the car battery, it somehow de-programmed the fob.

2) I have an electrical problem somewhere in the car and the brand new battery drained all the way down these past few days.

3) The key fob battery coincidently died as well.

Any thoughts?

I tried my key on the door lock and it only works one way with the back of the key fob facing up. Also try holding your key fob for a few seconds in the unlock position, then give it a try, may work may not.

 

Glenn, you should be able to open the drivers door with the key. Then if the car battery is good, try programming the key again, the procedure is in the handbbok.

Glenn, did the reprogram or FOB battery solve the problem? If yes, which do you think was the culprit.

Thanks everyone. When I got home from work I was able to get into the car and get it started. WD40 works wonders. Once I got into the car, I was able to pop the hood and saw that the negative terminal was not tight and could not be tightened any more due to corrosion. Next step... buy a new clamp/cable.

I searched everywhere to try and find a New Negative Battery Cable to fit the Crossfire. Needed one 9" long (OR 230mm in English). Shortest I could find was 12" (305mm), but these were thicker in diameter, and too rigid to be fitted to the Crossfire. I ended up cutting the terminal end off the existing, and fitting a new end connection.

 

Wow! The dealer couldn't order one???

 

in the future, you can also run to autozone and grab their negative terminal/cord. It's the right size except the length, you can play loopty loop with it or simply cut it down... either way its a new cable!

 

I tried all the Autoshops, including Autozone, Pep Boys, Advance Auto and about 4 others, with no success at all. The thickness an rigidity of the longer ones, would not allow Loopity loop. I eventually cut down my original, and fitted a Brass Plated End connection, which look REALLY GOOD.

 

If you need to replace the cable go to your Mercedes dealer and check out part# 202-540-02-31 , it is for a SLK and should be an exact replacement.
