Default Karmann Factory?

Ive wanted a 911 since I first saw one as a teen. And this car is as close as I could afford to it....Ive heard that xfires are made in karmann Germany and the other day I saw a used 911 for sale and low and behold the ID badge on it said Karmann (woah) Did I finally get a car built at the same factory as the 911? or just the same town? any one know about this? Oh yeah the Karmann Ghia was a cool car too..... I was very happy with my car, but Im even more proud of it now! the more I hear the more I like this car. Also I saw a pic somewhere on here of an under wing panel that said karman on it. was it a homemade mod or a store bought? If its a mod then hats off to the guy who did that!! Cause im a tool maker and thats not an easy trick on a curved surface. It looked really good too!

Yes, the xfires are built at the Karmann plant in Germany. The Karmann lettering you referred to is a decal. You can get them to send you one along with a badge. Follow the info in this thread to write them a letter:

Karmann has been building Porsches and VWs etc. for over 40 years that I know, does anyone know how long ? This months Autoweek had a hybrid Rolls 1920s and USA coach builder. So our Crossfires are following a long line of mixed (hybrid) CAR builders!

Porche 911/912 were built there 1967-1971. More info here:

Not all 911's. Only some of the cabriolets/hardtops from ages past.

Im working on some new ideas for my car now......I run Wire EDMs .....They cut like an electric bandsaw sort of....But very accurate. Uses a 25mm brass wire .010" Let me know if ya'll have any suggestions. But Im not in it for profit just pride in making cool stuff. My company would not be cool with that....

That kinda stuff is best done with a mold for production not billet. solid metal would take for ever to make. I was thinking of maybe some stainless badges of very thin stainless.....Will post some pics when I finish it...
