Biloxi, MS -Keeler AFB area XFires?
Re: Biloxi, MS -Keeler AFB area XFires?
I was born at Keesler! Only lived there for the first few years of my life - not long enough to scope the fun spots, lol. However, I go back down south fairly frequently.
Katrina did a number on Biloxi so not sure what has been fixed back up. Used to be gambling in the area if you are into that. The ocean/beach is nice. If you don't mind a drive - and being a Crossfire person, I'm sure you won't mind - pop over to the New Orleans area for great food, fun, music, sights. I go back every few years. The bayous are eerily beautiful - do a tour boat if you've never been deep in one. And NOLA - well if you can't find something fun to do there, you just aren't trying.

Bat, thanks for the info.
It doesn't seem like there is anyone currently down in that area that is a member of the forum.
I would definitely like to make a weekend trip to New Orleans. Never been before so it should be interesting. What is it about 6 or 7 hours from Keesler?
And I love all kinds of good food !!

Not even...let us know how fast you make it there in the Crossfire.
Btw, Lake Ponchartrain is an interesting drive - last time I went that way we had a ship go through and the bridge raise up two cars ahead of us, kinda cool.
As for good food:
In Slidell (since you'll pass right throught), along the edges of the lake are some awesome hole-in-the-wall "restaurants". They pull the mudbug traps right outta the lake, wash em in a tub, boil 'em up right in front of you then mix the whole mess with seasonings, garlic, corn on the cob and toss onto a covered table where you just dig in with your hands and eat until you want to bust. Once you get into the French Quarter in New Orleans - just follow your nose. If you aren't particular about your surroundings, you'll find some of the most amazing meals in some of the most rundown looking spots. If that is too daunting, there are plenty of "respectable" places to choose from.
