Replacement Key
Replacement Key
Recently bought a 2005 XF Coupe..... without rehashing all that went on during and after purchase.... 2nd Key was needed
Left=New Key.....Right=Key with XF
Chrysler dealer - Parts Dept:
01/26/2011 Wed.....Key ordered ($167.15).... comes from TX
A couple of hours earlier... Sales Mgr told me a new Key was approx $270.00
01/28/2011 Fri........Key arrived.... later at the Parts Dept:
Asked if it had to be programmed.... No, it comes programmed, just plug & play
The Lock/Unlocked/Panic buttons didn't work.... the Key itself opened the door/started iot right up.
Informed them of the situation..... no one in parts had a clue.... one fellow called TX.... told the Key must be bad.... will send another..... they even looked in various files for info on the Key.... nothing........ asked a few Service Tech, but anyone familar with the XF was not available..... left the Key.
Here is the kicker

Well how about that..... and no one Friday had any clue.
10:00 am... arrived and requested the Key.... told them I had a possible solution........ 2 minutes later.... told them problem solved.... one fellow asked how was it resolved..... let him read the printout I had from the link above..... he asked if he could photo copy it.... OK, no problem.
Thank you "ShawnKey" for that info..... appears I saved $100.00.

Re: Replacement Key
just a fyi - a Chrysler/Dodge dealer in San Antonio sells the key cut for your car for $100, then programs it for your car for an additional $50. I inquired because when I bought my car in September it came with only one ugly key with the cracked open panic button. Being the frugal (cheap) fella that I am, I was outraged - the last time I replaced a key for a vehicle was in 2000 for my ford Explorer, it cost around $3
Re: Replacement Key
As an alternative source just for the record, you can get one here for $153 shipped.

They claim it works right out of box, no programming needed. I was going to order one from them but will check needswings first now I know he deals in them.
