What is the best Ecu company (hp/dollar)?
I read all of the treads on Ecu tuning and I am still confused.
What company does the best job (dollar/hp ratio)?
Renntech
Kleeman
Upsolute
Powerchip
EvoMS (evolution motorsports)
or Speedtuning

A lot of people on here purchase the upsolute chip. I think it's $400 or so, but I really don't know what they are changing in the ECU, or if your really making more hp. I haven't seen a dyno graph for it. Try doing a search on the forums for it...and keep us posted.
The dyno part is the issue as you can't dyno the car unless there is a 'dyno mode' that nobody on the forums knows about or you get a dyno that has the rollers connected by a belt system (Mustang Dyno I believe). The reason is the ABS sensors in the front show no wheel movement and the ECU starts to cut the engine out at about 5,000 RPM to save the engine from what it perceives as possible damage.
I will be attempting a rear wheel only dyno on my SRT6 probably next week or so and the dyno technician was born in Germany and has worked on Mercedes cars for over 30 years. If I'm lucky he can shed some light on the mystery.
Back to the ECU, I will probably be getting an Upsolute upgrade before Thanksgiving. The Upsolute dealer I spoke with says they can now program the ECU from the ODBII port! YAY!
Down side is that there are no California dealers left and I will have to drive to Utah or Washington. Either way it's going to be over a 12 hour drive each way...

When you get the srt6 dyno'd, try popping out that 50 Amp fuse for the traction controller. It's located in the small black box with the battery leads coming out of it. Give it a shot, I've yet to do it myself, but I should have time this weekend to test it.
This should allow for some sideways corner action hehe... but might also allow you to dyno your car to 6,500 rpm??

He told me that there was a website that has all the programs and with some creative ingenuity you can do the same flash yourself. I don't know what the website is, but I'm sure some smart member could find it...
Hell, they're even selling them on ebay now.

I am not saying that all or any of those companies on the posted list are this type of outfit, as some are reputable big buck operations that do have the proper remapping and tuning facilities and capabilities. But you really need to ask the vendor some questions before you take the plunge, a good one for openers is 'did YOUR company actually do the remapping, and if so where and when, and on what specific vehicle?' If they can't answer that then I would walk away - you may still be getting a good ECU upgrade developed by a reputable tuner, but do you really want to buy it off someone else? I think it is more a question of ethics than engine tuning!
I do not know about the smaller companies like Upsolute but the larger companies like Kleeman and RENNtech are based on the same program. Some smaller shop in Germany is responsible for all the work. Could not tell you who that shop is. That being said I know that Kleeman (and probably RENNtech) can will make some custom changes, e.g. programming out the ECU throwing a code for missing Catalytic Converters. PowerChip is one of the few companies that are selling different programs they have different programs for octane (91 vs. 93) and for the SRT6 they add in programs for whether you have an Pulley upgrade or not. I suspect they too used the base program everyone else is using and tweaked it from there but I do not know.
Personally I would stick with one of the larger companies until the smaller ones prove themselves. If you shop around and you can find powerchip on sale for 20% off at times. I would rather spend ~$700 (and change) for a proven product than ~$400 for an unproven one.
For the SRT6 I don't think you can go wrong with RENNtech, Kleeman, or Powerchip.

Are you saying Upsolute can program our cars now with out pulling/changing out the ecu? That would be very cool. Thanks for the research.

I was looking at couple M-Benz & Audi forums/threads, and there were alot of satisfied people that went with speedtuning...
I'm going to try speedtuning out ($275 and a money back guarantee is worth a try).
I will post full review when the chip installed.

I have seen a number of dyno's for Kleeman, RENNtech, and PowerChip.
I paid $350 for my Upsolute last week, I'm looking for a dyno for my web site on it. I know they promise hp from 215 to 238 and torque to 247!
New page on my site called "Performance ideas" on performance parts for the crossfire.

psuperti... so, you are planning on a dyno run to back up all that HP gain you claim, eh? Good, because if and when you do, I think you'll be greatly disappointed that your numbers are not nearly as close to what you think they are.
As for getting a dyno, you might want to do a search and read all about it. HDDP and Woody have both tried to get one done, but the Crossfire isn't set up to go full RPM on a dyno. The issue has been a thorn in their side. None of the chip tuners have came out with results of a dyno to back up their HP claims either. If and when you get a run in, be sure to let us know how you did it, you'll be the forum hero for having figured out how to get full throttle results on the dyno...
Who reflashed your chip and where are they located? That's a good price you got.

I want to ask you something honestly, I have seen a dyno here of the loss of HP from the crank shaft to the wheels and how stock it was not 215 but around 170 something to the wheels. I'm aware of the difference. If I'm speaking of HP to the crank shaft 215 I can prove I got 13 + 75 with my dyno charts that put me at 298 hp. Now I'm looking for the Upsolute tuning dyno which should be 9 - 20 hp. Will that be so hard to believe when I prove I got 323 hp + all the other mods I told you about on my limited xfire? Because if I'm not going to convince you or anyone else I think I'm going to sit back, relax, and enjoy my first week of school that starts tomorrow.

And yes, I've heard of Rene. If memory serves me correctly, he did the first Crossfire chip remap using the SLK 320 program for a former member here... WMichaels.

OK I will, my site is down anyway. I didn't know there was not a dyno on an Upsolute chip, thanks. The dynos I have are the pulley kit and Nos. Later.
How about this old thread.
Here are two graphs.
First one is stock Crossfire before and after Powerchip software.
Second one is stock normally aspirated 3.2L vs. stock C32 AMG, which shares the engine with SRT6. This 330 HP business is simply marketing, it makes 349 HP. I looked at SRT6 and I do not see anything different from AMG motors, except for plastic engine cover.
