Thumbs up Extra knee room! Removed the pull handle from door.

Well I figured this would make the car much more comfortable to drive, And wow! mucho better, especially for you long legged drivers like me.

Right now there are two ugly holes in the door but I could care less, with the added comfort for my knee.
Eventually I will turn down some aluminum rods that should slip right into those holes and bolt into the door panel for extra support. I figure I'll either add a nice leather loop strap to one of the plugs or attach the strap to both plugs, so that it bridges the gap across the arm rest area. Either way it feels a lot better driving long distances now.

Next to go is that darn knee bolster!

Usually the window is rolled down when I get inside, so I just pull on top of the door. I can get my finger in the hole if the window is up.

I was trying to think of a nicer way to put it, but yeah, that about sums it up. LOL.

I'm 6'2" and I would never think about taking that off my door, it takes away the function and style of the door panel big time.

I found it comfortable to put my left foot just to the right of the "dead pedal", next too/behind the brake pedal.
I can fully extend my leg and my foot doesn't even get in the way of pressing the brake pedal as far as it can go.

Meant no offense, but when I saw the photo's the first thing I thought of was, "How ingenious, someone has created a way to save up for our high oil change and Tire costs. Just insert a quarter everytime you want to get out of the car.

To do it is one thing to take pictures and post is another.

how flimsy is the door panel now? IIRC, the door pull held the door panel onto the skin.

and for the record, i would have tried removing the knee bolster first before the door pull.

It's not flimsy at all. Quite stiff. There are a couple other bolts that hold the door panel down, and some press clips too, so it's not that floppy.

I think the knee bolster is going to be a lot more work, this only takes two bolts and I was done. It's very easy to put back.

I am 6'3" and have no problem with anything. I have the seat JUST right. When my girlfriend drives, she will mess everything up. If it works for you, then great.

You know what works great for this? A chrome bar about two foot long. Fits right in those holes!

5'6" and loving it.

The point of removing the handle is to get some more knee room and to keep from banging my knee against the damn thing. I don't understand why I'm getting **** for removing the plastic bar, all in the name of comfort?

How about some constructive ideas?

I'm just giving you a hard time. It's your car you can do as you please.

I found that if I take my shoes off, my legs will extend down in to the foot well and I can actually straighten my knees out (6'2")! Also, I am in the process of hacking out the bulkhead behind the seats to allow my seat to recline enough for me. My wife is not amused...

Yeah right! lol.

Actually I'm thinking of getting a new seat for the driver's side. I believe Sparco sell a manually adjustable street style bucket. The problem with the stock seat is that there is no lumbar support, and the power motors take up space under the seat. If I go with a non power seat I will get more headroom, and some decent back support. I will probably get more leg extension room, since the Sparco seats are a bit thinner.

check with Derek (HDDP) or do a search for seats -- he's already done it and might be able to help you out if you go that route.

How about plugging the holes with some ali bushes and fitting a simple nylon web or cord door pull between them a la 911 RS?

Cool that sound like it might look good. I'll have to see if I can search for interior pics of the 911-RS.
