dynamicS & HDDP,

Somehow I think you both could have been a bit more forgiving in your postings.

HDDP,

Seems there is a conflict of information between you and Feets... maybe you two should compare notes and see what floats to the surface.

dynamicS,

Let these two iron it out and see what comes of it. Both have great experience with these automobiles. Feets happens to work at a Mercedes Dealership which gives him access to the actual parts. HDDP has actually changed the brakes on his Limited to the SRT6 system along with other numerous upgrades. I've examined his Crossfire. It's race prepped to say the least.

Don't discredit someone out of hand... if you see a discrepancy, point it out to both and see who made the 'dyslexic' error.

I too am still trying to wrap my brain around these things.

My understanding was that the SLK320 (R170 chassis) is the basis for the Base and Limited and the SLK32 AMG (R170 chassis?) is the basis for the SRT6. (Corrections & Clarifications are welcome)

Cheers!

The SLK 230 rotors are 11.25" up front and the SLK 320 rotors are 11.8" up front. I was wrong on which setup the Limited uses.
I'd be real hesitant to mess with Derek on this. He's done his homework. This is a subject he takes seriously and is something that he relies on to keep himself safe every time he goes out.
The complete SLK 32 brake setup (f/r pads, calipers, rotors) retails around $2,600 but wholesalers can get it straight up $2,000. I have no idea what you can do the SRT setup for using local sources.

MMZ... all SLKs from 98 to 2004 are 170 chassis. That simply designates the platform. The Limited uses many of the SLK 320 parts and the SLK 32 relies mostly on the SLK 32 goodies. The only real are in the engine, drivetrain, suspension, brakes, and programming. The actual structure of the chassis should be the same. I know the SRT coupes have the convertible bracing under them and I assume the Limiteds use the same stuff.
My SRT definitely rides stiffer and has less body flex than the SLK 32s I have driven.

Yes it is... The only things that changed are some components of the chassis between the SLK320 / Crossfire Limited & the SRT6 / SLK32... shocks, springs, sway bars, etc... the entire chassis is the same between the SLK320, SLK32, Crossfire Limited, SRT6... To take it one step further, the short block of the engine (M112) is the same as well, minus some internal components.

There are some differences in the drive lines and auto tranny though... There are two versions listed for the Crossfire and SLK's and I'm not sure what they are... but only one manual tranny that is the same between the SLK320 and the Crossfire.

PS: I apologize to dynamicS for being a *****... but I was trying to tell him the straight scoop on the brakes and he wouldn't listen... Sometimes you gotta get slapped to wake-up out of a coma...

The Chrysler SRT6 brake parts are much cheaper retail...

I thought they would be. MB is usually a wee bit proud of their stuff.
