Default Dead Key Fob

So my key fob has apparently died suddenly. It was spotty for a while so I used my second remote without problems...until my dog ate it and I had to switch back to the sketchy one.

The backup worked pretty much flawlessly until it just died one day...I got fresh batteries and figured that would do it since the guy at the battery store said that the old ones were indeed dead. NOTHING.

So I searched these forums and read that you had to reprogram the remote using the instructions in the manual...so I tried it...multiple times...NOTHING.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Also, how can I get a replacement for the key fob that my dog took a liking to?

Thanks in advance for any help.

John, bum deal. Haven't heard from you for a while.
I just watched the Oak Creek Poker Run video
the other day. It is still excellent!! Good Luck.

Have you tried replacing the batteries?

Order one from your dealer.

Yep, swapped out the batteries. I'm gonna try and reprogram the fob again...I'm not expecting anything.

I don't suppose the key fob is covered under warranty.

You could get another key fob from ebay and then change the blade on it. Then reprogram it, as far as I know no one on the board has done this. There is a pin that you have to tap out to change the blades. There is a tsb about the panic button sticking and draining the batteries so you can order the panic button separately for like $5 dollars or so to see if that works. Good luck...

The battery is not covered, but the key is. I had mine replaced under warranty. Contact your dealer and ask them.

After taking the batteries out, you have to re synchronize the fob.

1) with new batteries in, press the unlock button twice quickly, pointing at the car.

2) within 30 seconds, put the key in the ignition and turn to the ON position.

This re synchronizes the key to the car after the fob has lost power.

This is addressed in the owners manual.

How quickly do I have to press the unlock button twice?

Another thing I have done is done the battery self check on the remote and I am not getting anything lighting up...thats what makes me think that the thing is just dead.

Reading all this makes me think I should replace my battery before it dies on me. What size is the key fob battery ? How many do I need for each fob ?

You will need 2 3v batteries. The number is CR2025.

It cost me about $6 bucks for both of them at a local battery shop.

I just programmed a new replacement key the way "brhertel" stated. It worked fine.

If it didn't work for you, one additional point was that the car was actually locked at the time. So after pressing the unlock button twice I then used the new key to unlock the door manually then start the car. The new fob worked normally after that.

I had mine unlocked at the time with the door open, and pressed the unlock twice about a second or so apart. It doesn't have to be really quick.
