Default Removing the Ignition key assembly

I am trying to remove the ignition key assembly from the steering lock. I have the transponder coil off the ignition switch cover sleeve. Now, how do you get the sleeve off the lock so you can remove the key assembly?

I am sorry to bother you, but I am stranded in Florida and need to get it started or I will have to get it towed 20 or more miles.

Are you sure there is something wrong with the ignition assemble? I have found my key would sometimes stick right before turning to start, usually I just re-engage, step on clutch, turn to start aggressively, and jiggle the steering wheel back and forth.

There is a problem with these switches, I had to have mine replaced, there have been others on forum who had the same problem, "key will not turn switch" the longer you fight with it the more it binds until some day it will not turn. Get it replaced under warrenty.

I have wiggled jiggled cussed and cursed moved it in every possible position and moved the car back and forth but it still does not turn. I am in Panama Beach about twenty miles from a dealer, and do not want it towed to be charged five star prices. I just want to get the ignition key assembly off the steering lock assembly so I can look at it and take it somewhere to have it ordered. The Cover over the ignition key keeps jumping back like it has a spring retainer but I see no holes in it to release it. I thought maybe someone had taken one off before.

Are you trying to follow the attached procedure in the manual? If so at what stage are you having a problem? There is a note about removing the parking interlock cable if you have an auto, could that be the issue? Any pics to illustrate what's going on?

I am at step 6 remove your key cylinder, the transponder ring is off. The cylinder has a sleeve over it that seems to have a spring retainer that when I try to pry it off, it snaps back on.

On page 19-28 Key/Lock removal, I am not sure what they mean as the escutcheon on step one but the transponder coil is of the lock cylinder. Step 3 confuses me. Push the sleeve (cover) onto the cap? An turn the lock cylinder to position 1 (???) with the key. Well the key only turns a small way.

Thanks it has been three days with out my sweetheart.

Exclamation Re: Removing the Ignition key assembly HELP ASAP

I hate to bring a dead thread back to life, but I am in EXACTLY the same situation as the original poster. My car is trapped at work 30 miles away and the key will NOT turn to position 1. Also, because of where it is in the parking lot it cannot be towed (since the wheel cant be turned to move it somewhere else). I have removed the electronic connections to the ignition/lock assembly. The only thing attaching it to my car is the steering wheel lock. The key will not turn to position 1, and apparently if I get the assembly off my steering wheel locks FOREVER?? Is there a protocol to follow for getting the assembly off when the key will not turn. It would be tremendously helpful if someone could help me tonight so I can try and get it off tomorrow after work. I know there are a lot of threads on this, I just cant seem to find the information I need.

I got the manual and removed the panel and even ordered the assembly from Europe but could not do it and had the Crossfire towed to a locksmith. You better ask if they can do it first, it has a mechanical lock also they have to do.
