Manual Vs. Automatic Mpg
Just Purchased A New '06 Base Roadster And This Is The First Car That The Automatic Is More Economical Than The Manual 17-25 Manual Vs 21-28 Auto And No One At The Dealer Could Tell Me Why.
I have gotten an amazing 29 MPG on a recent trip but it was driving down out of mountains and on very straight, flat roads. I often get 27 on the highway. In town if I drive very conservatively (and I rarely do - what would be the point?) I can get 21 MPG out of it. Normally mine hovers around 19 MPG in town. This is Dallas driving.
I've been getting a sorry 15-17 mpg in the city, but it's not the car it 's this crappy Californian gasoline they have been raping us with, I swear they've increased the alcohol content from 10% to 15%. Maybe I should pick up a hydrometer and test my theory to really find out what's in this stuff. We pay about 20% more than the rest of the country and we get less mileage then other states, man are we getting screwed.
I have the manual and I used to get 21 mpg before they switched us over to summer fuel. so no I can't say the automatic is more economical, maybe it's your foot.

I have seen upwards of 34 and change, and as low as 18 when i first started working on my exhaust because I was too busy playing with it to get a sound that I liked. lol The only draw back is that here in the mountains I can only get up to 91 octane without going to the race track and getting avgas.

I've only run 6 or 7 tanks through mine since I've owned it, all 93 Octane (TX), and I've averaged just under 26 mpg. That includes a good bit of 'spirited' driving, and a 70/30 highway/city mix.
I was impressed with the mileage, to say the least.
This is an '04 Auto, no mods.
