Bigger gas tank???
Thinking about making the hump, in the trunk into a 90 degree angle and making the gas tank bigger. From the looks of it, it looks like a possible 5 gal+ enlargement. It's not like I can use my trunk for anything else but holding a loaf of bread. Will post pics of the process as I go thru.
What other benefit is there to spend the kind of money you're about to just to get about 100+ more miles out of a tank? I just don't see the point.
There's a lot more you can do with the trunk of the car than to add a gas tank. Put a custom system in the trunk if you're not going to use it. That's a little more practical.
But hey, it's not my car, you can do as you please with your property and money.

Hey! I didn't mean to end this thread. I would really like to add 3-5 more gallons of gas. Would it be possible to add a small fuel cell in place of some of the Styrofoam in the back? Just asking.

the styrofoam that is there to absorb impact ? yes ... but at the cost of your safety ... HDDP found a nice titanium plate above his gas tank. and you guys are proposing bringing the explosives closer into the cabin and removing the impact absorbing material around it ?
best of luck ?
BTW: i have a 1987 jeep i do crazy stuff to ... i try to leave this xf alone cause it was not engineered by a bunch of off-roaders on acid.

Besides the safety issue (people love to tail gate this car). There is also a Max. load capacity to deal with. I think it's only 450 lbs.
It's just not a very good idea, but that's just my opinion.

The gas tank actually has a lot of components like vent lines and roll over valves. Reconfiguring the tank will have to take these components into consideration.
If you want a safe tank, you can buy aircraft and racing frangible and self sealing tanks. I can bet the price is high. You would have to get the appropriate fittings though.
Personally, after 30 years as a pilot, I am allergic to fuel that is behind me and wants to come forward in a crash. IMO.
