Default ECU Enhancements?

I realize that this is something that has been discussed before on this forum, but I wanted to start fresh. I am interested in making ECU mods to my 2005 Crossfire Coupe LTD. Please give me some advice as to how I should proceed.

Is this an easy task? Will this improve MPG? Will this allow for increased HPs? Are there any COTS programmers available or will I need to replace the ECU chip as well as purchase the necessary software?

Basically...
You can not do it your self easily.
Probably better off going with such companies as:-
Inmotionusa.com
speedinnovations.com
upsolute.com
powerchipgroup.com
eurorev.com

They all offer the same gains at roughly the same price.
Certain people have certain preferences.

There is no 'at-home' solution for those who are technical savvy?

Thanks for the response, spensley!

Let me rephrase my previous post...
I am looking for a solution that can be achieved by myself without having to send my ECU chip off. I realize that one may not exist, but I figured I would ask the question to all you xfire gurus out there.

There is a company called MTH in germany that does ECU programing for BMW and Mini's and the ECU retune only costs about $75.00 What this guy does is, you give him your VIN number and he creates a new file based on certain options and mods that have been done to the engine with your VIN number embedded and emails you the file. You use a lap top with a special cable that attaches to your OBDII port. It would be nice if this company had something for us! All the companies above are also reflashing our ECU's but you have to be there or send them the ECU. I have heard that most of these ECU tuners are just reflashing Eurospec maps, but not sure if this is true. If we knew a certain country had a better tune, with things like the speed limiter turned off there is another way to go. The mercedes tech I am dealing with has paid a little extra to have access to all progems in Startech and Autologic systems. He told me he could reflash my computer for any country in the world. Who knows, maybe Germany didn't have the speed limiter for trips on the Autobahn?

I want the Saudi Arabian tune, with no cats baby!

from what I've heard, I think powerchip is the cheapest for a re-flash, something like $400 for 19hp

Just checked, Powerchip website has a Price over $ 600 !

www.inmotionusa.com lists a ECU upgrade for less than $400.

Claims to boost Hp from 215 to 238 and Torque from 229 to 247.

That sounds pretty good to me.

Anyone have any experience with this outfit ?

Yea I have upsolute, definately felt the difference. From what I have heard, they all use the same tune on the ECU, so you will get identical gains from each. Good luck, I would personally search for the cheapest and most reputable vendor.

I am looking at upsolute and Inmotion for my V8 conversion which is a 2002 CL500 engine. Inmotion takes the it from 306 to 318 HP and 450-465 NM torque Upsolute is showing this as well as another map that takes the V8 from 306 to 331 HP and 450-490 NM.

Does Upsolute have a US dealer?

By the way, I don't believe InmotionUSA does any actual programming as they are a dealer for Inmotion who I think is based in Austria. I am going to call Inmotion to see why the difference with Upsolute.

I like MTH's (DMH Motorsports) motto.

"Friends don't let friends drive stock!"

I spoke to Inmotion and the local Taxas dealer for Upsolute. Upsolute was pretty honest in telling me that all the files that eveyone is selling is all the same. Beaware that these files are from Europe and so most of the performance quotes are in PS and not HP and instead of torque you will often see NM. Here is a good site that will convert these for you.

http://www.mr2ownersclub.com/converter.htm

I will probably go with Upsolute because he is just 12 miles from my house.

Inmotion does send out the part you need to flash your own chip. I believe Tazz paid a $2,000 deposit to use the part. They are on ebay as well for $270 if no one bids. From what he explains in his post, you read your program and email it to them and they send you a new one to load onto your car. Search for that post, maybe that will help.

Did the InMotion upgrade with their "ByteShooter" and my laptop, no big deal, James is great to work with, certainly a good price.

As for the results, with my MB V8 airbox, K&N's, and Magnaflow, the ECU upgrade opened it all up - it drives smoother, even some passengers have remarked that it is not as rough or strained in the upper rpm's, and the extra torque is noticeable, and useful, down as low as 2000.

Only downside: Phoenix gas SUCKS - I mix some 100 octane racing unleaded in and the car just sings !!! Same on the stock RS4 and some friends' similar cars...104 octane boost helps in the summer, but now the carwash that just opened at the corner by my office has the 100 octane, and it's addictive...and it's only $6.50 a gallon (ouch)...they may have 104 octane soon they said, but I'm afraid to ask the price...
