Default K&N Filters Questions

I am debating whether to put K&N air filters in my 2005 Limited. I have studied the pros and cons on the forum and have condensed the issue down to these two points:
  1. K&N filters may let more particles into the engine than a stock filter.
  2. Upon oiling the filter oil may be sucked into the engine causing an issue with the sensors etc.

I don't know the answer to point number one but it does concern me because I live in dusty Utah. On point number two what would be wrong in running the K&N's without oil for the first 30,000 miles discarding them and installing new ones. The price difference between stock and the K&N filters is negligible. Please offer me your opinions.

Hello,

This may sound bias, but its not. We've used K&N filters on every car that has left our shop and have yet to have any problems. I run them on the shop Crossfire which was daily driven for quite some time, and no issues. I even use them with my Toyota Prius and that little thing hums happy as ever. On the other hand I do know a lot of people that like the AEM Dryflo and foam filters. I have no experience with the Dryflo, but do run a foam filter on our Corvette.

Now for the bias sounded part. We now carry the panel filters for both Crossfire engines on our website. Price for your engine will be 29.99 each. Check them out on our web site www.tvtdesign.com.

Thank you,
Anthony

As far as I know AEM does sell panel filters, but not sure if they have the correct size for the LImited. I have not heard of anyone installing one either. Your best bet would be to contact AEM (www.aempower.com) and check it out.

Utah12.
I have had K&N's on my car for 10,000 miles now and when I installed them it already had a set on K&N's form the previous owner. No problems with these filters at all and many members here are currently using them.

I've used K&Ns in almost every car I've ever owned.
Example, my Accord has had one in for 75,000 miles w/no issues.

I'm going to order the K&N filters! I have heard that the air filter box has Torx screws. Do you know the size (T=?)?

I have read here that many of the screws on the Crossfire are "Torx" screws.
Torx drivers come in standard sizes. T-9 to T-40 is the set I got at Sears. It has these T sizes 9,10,15,20,25,27,30 and 40. The bigger the number, the larger the driver. A set that have these sizes should be mostly what is needed for your Crossfire. The airbox requires one of these but I don't recall which one. These are all together in a single pocket size folding tool sold at Sears. "Companion" T
for about $5.00
