Default Koni Sport adjustable shocks

Hey I just got the Koni shocks and thought I would share my 2 cents on it.
This suspension set up is the best in the industry. The shocks are adjustable to your driving needs a comfortable ride in the city or a stiff racing characteristic for racing. The springs are good and less expensive than eibach. Providing a lower drop.

I've been considering the Konis for my SRT6 does it ride better than your stock shocks? And did you drop yours 1-1.5"? Thanks!

I put them on my SRT and they made a significant difference in ride! I didn't lower the car. You might want to search on lowering - there's a lot of info on that subject.

Crossbowme: So don't leave us waiting. Please tell us about the difference. Thx.

I know I had the KONI's on my sport-truck when I used to auto-X, and they were amazing. Definitely one of the finer shocks out there.

Once I get the SRT, they'll be going on soon.

Well, the SRT6 has a very stiff suspension which has been discussed in a lot of magazines and in many of the forum posts. Most notable is when you hit a pot hole or bump. The damn thing feels like you are going over a 15 mph bump at 75! The Koni's completely take care of this problem without sacrificing any handling. In fact, it has a very smooth ride until you get it in the twisties, then it handles as good or better than stock.

Crossbowme - So Excellent!!!

Your quote about the stiff suspension is, of course, right on target. Your feedback on the difference the Koni's provide is exactly the kind of personal experience those of us who've been looking to mitigate these problems (the ones you mention) need. Super info!!!

1. Is it your thought that any adjustable shock upgrade (ruling out upgrades for racing) would offer similar benefits, or is there something special about Koni's and Crossfires - particularly SRT-6's?

2. No spring changes? What's your thought process about this?

Yes, I say many of the noticeable road imperfections come and go now unnoticed now. If you plan on adjusting the shocks yourself, and often, beware on something that I had to learn on my own. The rear shock's head seats under your trunks carpet. So to adjust it you have to take it apart every time OR cut the hole on both sides and let the **** show.
Notice on the picture the white ****.

I presume the shocks are quite easy to exchange with the car up on stands. Is the rationale for replacing the springs merely to lower the car? I've always been a little antsy around springs...replacement likely requires some kind of spring compression tool?

I have the same question too. I was assuming that the after market springs would also help to smooth out the ride - but is that correct?

It's been my experience that aftermarket springs will lower the car and firm up the ride (but rarely improve it for the street). I think that your best bet for comfort will be a shock change and a set of Konis could be a sure thing (set to full soft).

I installed the Eibach Pro kit on my SRT 6, I made a huge difference in the ride on the rough roads here in Indiana. I'm happy with the ride, but they lowered the front too much. Will a Koni shock raise the front or should I ask do they have a sping in them to adjust so I could raise the front about 1/4"?

Somewhere in this forum you will find info from the tech guys saying that Bilstein is basically the stock shock for the SRT6. IMHO, that only leaves Ohlin which is way out of my price range. Hence, Koni is the best of those available. I know they're expensive but in this case, you get what you pay for.

I have seen where some guys were thinking about the stock SLK32 AMG shock but I don't have experience with that shock.

Steve, was the difference made from the springs alone or in tamdem with different shocks? Either way, as you know, ride and handling improvements can be subjective and since you enjoy the Eibachs I can only see two choices, custom made springs (same rate but taller) or spacers. The latter seems like the best choice and pretty sweet too though you'll probably need to spec them out.

So maybe the Eibach's and the Koni's together? Or would that be too much?

It has been my experience that cars that have been lowered without significant changes to the cars geometry do not perform well. Also, here in Maine, the potholes in the spring would wreck the car.

I didn't change the shocks, I thought they were probably a "top of the line" shock since it was a high $ sports car. I had an 04 coupe when I bought the SRT 6, I couldn't believe how much more of a rough ride the SRT 6 was than the 04 coupe. The Eibach's made it a lot better on the rough roads here in Indiana, I made a spacer out of some 1/4" rubber I had, compressed the spring and inserted it above the spring cup. But I think the weight of the car has compressed it down to about an 1/8". I know they make 3 or 4 different spring cups of different thickness, I had called a big Chrysler parts place back when I lowered my car and they had told me witch one's mine were by giving them my VIN #. At the time I still had the OEM wheels on it & was more concerned with getting the back to drop more because it only dropped about 1/2" to 3/4". Now that I have bigger wheels & tire's the back is okay, it's the front I need to raise just a little. I guess I need to get hold of them again and find out what mine are in the front to see if I can get a taller pair. here's a picture to show you how close the tire's are to the fender on the front, I do get a little rub when I hit a dip in the road. What is the name of the site with the spacers you posted pic's of?
Thanks, Steve
