I actually ordered one when I ordered my terminal cover because I didn't see it on my car and now I have no idea where it goes! Its kind of like a sleeve flared with a hole at one end (1/16 inch diameter) and solid on the other end. Kinda looks like a spent gun shell.

One would think that it has something to do with the battery cable but my Crossfire doesn't have anything that looks like the picture or your description. Does it have a "C" on the flat end like the picture?

The "C" you reference is actually the 1/16" hole on one end with the other end being solid. Like I said it resembles a bullet casing. This one has me stumped!!! I agree that it must have something to do with the cable. Someone help on this one!!

The battery has the vent holes at each end. If you look at the side of the battery closest to the firewall you should see a small plug in the battery. On the opposite end is a small catch can or tank. (close to the negative terminal) These are both removeable and interchangeable. On the parts list this latter part is called a tank. It is placed in that location to catch any overflow I would assume. The plug goes in the opposite side of the battery to fill the hole on that end. I guess the hole in the plug is so only a small amount of air will pass through it.

Hope this helps.

Wow!! So the plug is actually in the side of the battery closest to the firewall? Can you see it without taking the Battery out?

Thanks for the info!

It has the red cover over the positive battery post. The cover has two posts that snap into two holes in the top of the battery. Without the two holes in the battery it wouldn't work.

The Mercedes Part Number stamped on the cover is: A 001 546 08 35
The Mopar Part Number is: 05098850AA.

Check page 89 of the 443 pages in the link to a pdf.

The battery also has holes for a negative post cover but it's not really necessary.

Hope that helps.

Yes. You can see it, but most likely you will not be able to replace or remove it without pulling the battery. I'll post some pics to help with the location. The plug is in the center of the photos.

This photo shows the TANK on the right side of the battery.

Let me know if this helps.

Something that I thought interesting was the extra threaded lug on the negative battery cable end.

I am missing the plug. I have it here since I ordered one with the terminal covers. Do you think its worth pulling the battery to install it? Seems like everytime I turn around I am missing something on this car. I suppose if the battery was overfilled or overheated that the electrolyte would be able to exit onto the firewall in the absence of the plug. I worry about disconnecting the battery.

I also noticed that the black hose to the right of your negative terminal is not that close to your battery. Mine is snug up to it. What is this hose and do you think I can force it into a better position without doing damage to the connection?

Could you post a pic of your battery so I can see exactly how it looks? If you are talking about the thick bundle going into the large black box. That is a wire bundle. I would not move that. If your battery is that close to that bundle of wire I would think you would have enough room to insert the plug into the battery with the use of a pair of needle nose pliers. To state the obvious, becareful not to drop the plug behind the battery.

That would be unnessary due to the body being grounded already. Also there is not a part number that I can find from Chrysler for a Negative battery terminal cover. The positive cover would help to insulate the hot side from coming in direct contact with a conductive object in contact with a grounded body panel or negative terminal.

dude why are people freaking out about plastic covers and and rubber plugs????? you can go to the auto parts store and buy these any day or just take em off other batterys. its a simple 72 series battery used in like every mercedes and most vw and audis its not special by any means. oh and dont mess with the battery its supposed to have a certain amount of air inside of it and filling it can ruin it, best of all is when a tech goes to replace it and it explodes due to this and he has acid sprayed all over him! just dont mess with it, please.
