Flat Key Part Number?
Does anyone know the part number of the "flat key"?
That's the small key (no fob) that can be used to physically unlock your doors and start the car.
I asked at my local dealership about one, and they couldn't find one available from Chrysler, just the ordinary fob.

Sorry fellas, I think you misunderstand. I'm not talking about just a metal key blank. As we know, they are laser cut and VIN related, and generally a pain in the rear.
I mean the Chrysler part number to order a flat key for our cars - just like you order a new fob from a dealer. I read somewhere in the forums that someone had a flat key, but I couldn't find any part numbers listed.

Max, you're not listening. This is NOT a key that you cut yourself. It is NOT a blank. It is pre-cut from the same place that send the fobs, and it includes a transponder (not a transmitter - as in remote). It is a Chrysler part number, and you would order it the same way you would order a new fob, just different part number.

I checked with a Mercedes dealer once and they said a flat key is available for the SLK. So, I don't see why one couldn't be made for a Crossfire. However, you need the key laser cut and transponder (not transmitter) programmed for the VIN. That's the problem. The Mercedes guy said he might be able to get a flat key to open the door, but without transponder??? So, you couldn't start the car. But, he really didn’t know. My Chrysler dealer just said it can’t be done.

It is stated correctly above. There is No key that can start this car without the key fob This is why your car sits rather safely in bad neiborhoods. BUT I HAVE A FLAT KEY THAT OPENS MY DOORS ONLY IT WILL NOT START THE CAR UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES. I MADE IT FROM A STANDARD FOBBED KEY. The key fob is where the radio frequency originates to close the security circut.
So if you want to have a "walletable" ket that can open your doors grab a fobbed key and grinder and have at it.

actually you can make it work, I there is a small chip in the fob that is easily removed. now you will have to mill out your key, so that you can inlay the chip in the flat key itself then glut it in there..
do a search in the DIY section under key fob rebuild and it will show a picture of the chip you need to take out.
