if you're serious about making power you need a standalone. The stock gauges can be replaced with a digital dash similar to the aim unit.

I still don't get why you guys are so hung up on keeping everything stock. The value of our cars gets lower everyday. Pretty soon they'll be priced like a civic. It's just a car. If you want to make power and go fast, the stock **** needs to go.
How much power are we talking here? I didn't think a 32x32 map was really necessary, but then again I'm new to efi tuning. I agree though, the car is nothing special mechanically... Is there any option for traction control with the AEM and would it be possible to keep ABS (or are there any tunable ABS controllers out there)? I like ABS, and would like a tunable traction control that doesn't bring the car to a stop when the tires chirp. I like MS because there is alot that can be done with it (well, for a 73 mustang at least), the software is free and the hardware is cheap. I was even reading about an RPM based TC system that will cut either spark or fuel if the revs climb too quickly. Personally, I'd love to keep everything stock working but wouldn't be heartbroken if I can't when the time comes to build my car.

The aem standalone does tons.

Antiag. 2 step. Launch control. It does traction control off of wheelspeed or rpm vs speed sensor. It will do traction control and boost control on a gear by gear basis.

When you get into high power you need more resolution, as the ecu averages the gaps between the data points, the bigger the gap between points the more chance there is for something to go wrong. Also with some applications you need the higher resolution just to tune.

Abs shouldn't have anything to do with the PCM. It has it's own control unit. I don't use abs on anything, crossfire included. Learning how to threshold brake teaches you better car control plus you can brake harder and later without having to worry about the abs freaking out on you.

$2k is alot of money though.. It may be the best option but I feel like alot of guys would be happy with a 300-400hp low boost setup, which would be no problem with MS. I have a feeling the stock motor would hold up to it, at least for a while. I have a feeling you are swinging for the fences lol, I know you get what you pay for.. but you said it, its just a car that is depreciating in value. If it blows up, you can still drop in an LS for less than having all the custom stuff made for the original engine. I'd love to have a stock appearing turbo v6 that makes crazy power, but I don't have the money to pull it off. There's a good chance my car will be bastardized with a chevy engine if the stock engine takes a dump .
