If it's your daily driver and your means to get to work/school, "milk it till the last minute" is not very wise when it comes to batteries.

Mine was replaced in route to Puerto Rico. Don't know the story behind it, but my battery is frosted (clear) with blue stickers on the top. I'll have to go take another look to see exactly what's in the car before saying anything more.

I figured on replacing my battery on my '04 this spring. I checked with a local small parts supplier. He stocks the HTP91 for $111. He can get the MTP-H6 in a few days for $149. I don't mind a black battery and the extra cranking amps.

My battery was still going strong, but since it is over 5 years old I felt it was cheap insurance to replace it with a new one. If the Crossfire wasn't my only means of transportation I probably would have waited for it to die.

I found an Energizer E48 at the local Sam's Club for $65 even though it isn't listed in their book. It's about 1/2" shorter so I'll have to come up with a spacer for the hold down to replace the piece of wood I stuck in there temporarily.

I don't know if this would affect any of you, but about 2 years ago or so, Chrysler had to replace tires and batteries on a pretty good number of Crossfires at the port of entry because they had been sitting so long. The batteries had gone bad and the tires had started to deteriorate. A friend of mine bought one and it had to come from the port in Baltimore and it took nearly 6 weeks to get it from Baltimore to North Carolina.
Shipping was not the problem.

The 34R Redtop will fit, but it will need a spacer under the clamp strap. The sizes given for the battery are 10" x 6.8" x 7.8" high, but the height includes the posts, so the case is 6.8 high. The height over the terminals is .3" higher than the OEM battery. The spacer would be about .7" thick.

The R in the part number is because it has reversed posts, putting the +terminal where we need it in the Xfire. This is most important as the battery cables wont reach the standard Optima post positions.

This is a powerful battery, 800CCA (1,000CA), 50Ah, with 104 minutes reserve, list price is around $165.
The OEM battery had 680CCA, and 74Ah, higher in CCA but lower in Ah capacity. The CCA rating is what to look for and rate the batteries on.

I have an early 04, my battery is white.
It is the original and still going strong. I drive it every day.
Just wanted to share.
When it goes I'll probably just put an Interstate in it.
There is no need to track down a factory battery just put something from a quality manufacture in it.

Dates and appearance of a battery have little bearing on its capacity. To be sure borrow a battery load tester to check the health of the battery. I have one that measures the under load test voltage and you draw a bunch of amps for like 5 or 10 seconds.

This will show the relative capacity to deliver the starting current and is one of the most reliable indicators of the batteries HEalth. Most napa and autozone type stores have the testers and charge you nothing for the service. Its like checking the tire pressure, do it and know for sure.

Be happy, WOODY

The MTP-91 will not fit as the tray in the Crossfire will just take a battery that is 11" long, the MTP-91 is 11.38 long. The MTP-H6 is identical to the OEM battery and will fit perfectly.

See page 6 at this site for details of both batteries;

So how have you guys that have installed the MTP-91 found the fit to be.
I have seen no mention to it being .38 inches to long.

I'm gonna buy a battery next month and I was gonna get the MTP-91 but now am considering the MTP-H6.

I may end up eating my words but my tray is just big enough for the OEM Varta which is 10.945" (278mm) long, it maybe could take another 1/8" no more. The base is normally the longest part of the battery, although the MTP-91 maybe looks longer on the top in the photo. If in doubt take a tape measure with you. I am going for the MTP-H6, not so powerful, but looks like OEM and thats what I like. Keep the red cover in case you do not get one and keep the vent cover it collects condensate and plugs in the end and stop drips if they should occur. If you keep the red cover and you get another, paint the old one black, looks good and fit on the other end.
I went through lots of sites of batteries and sometimes the maker says the case is a group 45 case size but the dimensions do not match the standard case size by a big margin.

PS. I learnt more about batteries than I ever intended and to tell the truth they are not too exciting.

The Interstate catalog does not list a 91HD, is this a Sam's number?
Is this really the HTD-91?
What color is the case?
Are the terminals on the top to the side?
Does it have one or two handles?
Does the stock clamp work without a spacer?
The reason for asking these questions is that ignoring batteries that require spacers under the clamp, there are not to many batteries that fit.
I am trying to find out if Interstate battery MTP-91 fits the tray as the dimensions listed for it indicate that it is too long by about 5/16".
It would be nice to have this battery in the choice as it is more powerful than the MTP-H6.

I put the MTP-91 in and fit the tray just fine. In fact, it was slightly smaller than the OEM on the longer side.
