Just found one on ebay. The seller warned me I might need to "program it with my vehicle." Should I be concerned? It's the exact part number everyone is saying is the right one. Is the seller just being cautious?

Just a guess but he may be referring to the maf which doesn't apply to you because you should be using your stock maf with the bigger tb housing

He said I need MBSTAR diagnostic system to program it...if it needs programming at all. It's the correct part number and it's from a Mercedes car. I think it's just a paranoid seller covering his bases but now I'm sharing his paranoia thinking I just wasted $200 on a part that might not work or worse.

Can someone put my mind at ease?

Nothing to worry about. Unbolt the 68mm and bolt on the 74mm with a new O ring gasket, put it all back together, do a throttle rest and ENJOY !!!!!
( I got mine from a recycler [ junk yard ] for $50 and it worked just fine ..... )

Plug and play, no worries. $200 is a bit too much though, $125 to $150 max.

Thank you all so much. $200 was a lot but local salvage yards were no help and I got impatient. If anyone's still interested I'll post how everything went. Im contemplating buying a needswings intake too so I only have to mess with it once.

Install went great. The only actual problem I had was getting that plastic ring around the MAF to lock again....I ended up using channel locks.

If I were smart (big if) I would have done the TB and intake at the same time. Oh well.

you will find that carguts ( Blacksburg, SC ) has 19 of them ( A 113 141 0125 ) on the Car-Part.com--Used Auto Parts Market site for $85 each ....
( look under 2003 Mercedes SL class, then 220 Type, S430, S500 & S55 , then sort by price.
They will be on page 7 )

The one I got from them was like brand new, with just a tiny bit of dust/dirt on it

You could also call them ( nice folks, BTW ) and ask about the MAF housing, or just do like most everyone else has and get a Needswings CAI.

Don't forget to get a new O-ring gasket.

Thanks so much for the info!!! As far as a Needswings CAI....cant bring myself to spend that much on a simple CAI (not saying its not nice or worth it to some)

I can dig it. I got mine from a fellow in San Diego that had sold his car.

Does anyone have data on HP gains for the TB, CAI, and tune on an N/A? I've heard a lot of claims that seem way out of whack to me...

I have never seen any dyno runs, or even comparable 1/4 mile times OFFICIALLY DOCUMENTED on here.

I can say mine feels maybe 20-25 hp stronger, and my MPG was not effected, if anything a wee bit better.
( that's with :
1. NW single CAI
2. 74mm TB
3. EuroCharged tune.
4. Larger cone K&N filter )

Eurocharged advertises a 24hp increase with the tune alone. So I would think it's reasonable to presume maybe 30-35 total HP gain with the 74mm TB and CAI? I've heard a lot of inflated claims that they're pulling close to 270hp with your same mods. I don't see where they're getting the power from.

Well, it IS possible if the rumor I have heard is indeed true :
Wikipedia says :
SL 320 with a M112 3.2 L 18-valve SOHC V6 (224 PS (165 kW; 221 hp) at 5600 rpm
( that's 6 more hp than the Crossfire's 215, I believe the SL320 had the 74mm TB )
But I have also heard that the true HP of a stock N/A Crossfire is around 240.
I have never seen any facts to back that up, however if true, then my mods might well place it in the 260-270 HP range.

I'm just too frugal ( mrmiata's word for cheap ) to drive 100 miles one way to find a dyno and know for sure.

Too frugal for long tube header too... but turbo is on the to do list.. Just a matter of where you feel your money is best spent I guess..
