Default The Best $300 Mod Available!

I have been pouring through all of the postings on this site trying to decide on the best use of my $300 that I saved up from my lunch money.

I have read about the CAI's, the K&N air Filters, Catbacks, ECU Upgrades, Sprint Booster, etc. I was wondering which method is the best for a seat of the pants feel for an 2005 NA Limited Roadster. Should I just change out the filters with K&N's, should I install the CAI, should I wait and save up for exhaust, should I save up for the ECU upgrade or the Booster, etc.?

Any advice from the folks that have done these upgrades would be great. The most annoying thing about the power in these cars right now to me is the delay when taking off from a stop. I guess the Sprint booster fixes this...is this correct? Also, I do not like the fact that when I am driving normally, The RPM's drop from 3K to 2K when the car shifts up a gear. Is this normal?

Thanks,

The sprinter booster would surely fix all the dislikes you are having.

That was the first mod I ever did and despite the high price tag, it was worth it..!...!

No doubt a CAI should be high on your list though.

Well i believe all of them help and if your trying to really get that feeling then buy all of those parts or get and SRT6.

Yes that is what the sprint booster is for.

How long have you been driving? thats what i want to know. the RPMs fall when it shifts haha that is a good thing. if you stayed in the same gear constantly you would waste huge amounts of gas or blow your engine. your car is trying to save gas by running at a higher gear and a lower RPM.

Based on your obvious lack of tact, I have probably been driving longer than you have been alive. lol

I was pointing out that this Xfire does not shift as smoothly as the others that I have driven and it definitely does not shift as smoothly as a Mercedes should.

I would say a SprintBooster for seat-of-the-pants fun, for sure.

A new exhaust, sound of your choice makes it seem as if you had more power, but it is just that-seems.

An NW or TVT intake gives actual gains. I was able to drive one this weekend for a short sprint and you can feel it (Thanks Valk!)

After that, an ECU tune will give you wonderful grins.

Well look at the way you worded what you said the first time and what you actually meant. In no way do those seem close to the same meaning. Leading me to say what i said. And its funny when you pull the age card whenever someone points something out stupid that you said. I am not very young and if your as old as you say then you should have known a way to convey what you really meant in the first place. Sorry for coming off as offensive i was just sharing what i saw. Not trying to cause any trouble on the forum.

You asked if the rpm dropping from 3k to 2k was normal.. To me that means, "should the rpm's be dropping when you upshift?" my response to that question would be yes... every car I have ever driven.. ever.... with no exceptions.... period... has done that. The only transmission that wouldn't do that is a cvt, only because it doesn't really shift. You said nothing about the way it was shifting. That was a stupid question....

Now that everyone has pi$$ed as far as they can, I'll repeat my answer:

Have you tried driving using the Autostick feature? Manually shifting each gear? It's alot of fun and gives you a feel for what the car can do when forced into the powerband of higher RPM's.

And a question that wasn't asked:

Have you tried a Throttle Reset? This car/ECU will learn your driving habits and kind of leave you flat if you suddenly want to drive in a more sporty fashion.

In regular Automatic shift driving, it (mine) feels just like any other automatic transmission. At least to me. Does yours seem to hesitate or have some other problems?

Let us know-some can be really helpful!

Maybe it's just Monday and the mood-meter is all the way to the left for some folks?

This is what we offer in that range:

Sprint booster: 315.00
Intake: 325.00
74mm throttle body: 250.00

All prices including shipping. All three will improve throttle response, the intake and TB will improve HP and Torque as well.

If you don't mind slightly used parts we've got some intakes laying around.

(P.S. Tard **** like that is what makes forums/threads stagnant.)

Yes i did , i was thinking about getting one myself and everybody that i talked to said nothing but good things about it. I was at the dragon this year and talked to alot of people that liked it. So i thought i would get one, but being a auto tech i wanted to know how it worked and what it did, had found some info about it and thought i would check it myself, So i got ahold of a buddy of mine that had one, So i scoped the tps and watched other sensors to see if it did anything else. What i found was it open the throttle to full open with the gas pedal about half way down, The responce time had a very small improvement so small theres no way you could tell it. it does make the car feel different but if you push the pedal to the floor it does the same thing. If it had changed lag time to the ecm or opened the throttle more at wide open throttle then yes it would be worth it but it doesnt the only thing it does it it keeps you from pushing the pedal all the way down to achieve full throttle so for 300 buck to push the pedal half way or all the way down. It doesnt change timming curves injector pulse width, It just simple changes how far you push the pedal. ECM, BCM, CAN, The computers in cars have gotten very quick with com times(talking to eachother) So if i had seen that had changed there Then yes... but it doent Yes it makes the car feel different, but you can do the same thing by just pushing the pedal to the floor. Belive me when i say i was going to buy one, thinking it changed more than the pedal travel but it doesnt. The file i added had the charts and did pretty much the same thing when i tested it myself. i have what it called a verus scanner made by snap-on very expensive but very good i can watch in real time what every sensor in that engine is doing so what i am saying i promise is true, and i do agree it does make your car feel different but for 300.00 bucks and i can do the same thing without it. well that just my thought about it and im sure theres quite afew that would differ with me, But the numbers dont lie. the only reason i posted it is its what i found and i was going to buy it, so i choose not to. i think you could spend the money somewhere else for a better and real improvement, Theres really nothing that compares to real HP...Tunning a ecm Yes ..timming curves ,injectors, temps, air fuel, But sprint booster NO . But thats just my opinion and dont forget you asked LOL... Sorry if that was too much , but its what i found
Thanks
Mike and Kathy
