Default Xfire dies while driving

I have read the threads about xfire not starting but my issue has happened while driving. I will be going along and then loose power and have to pull over. I could not restart the car. I initially thought that it was related to some after market work I had done to the car (GPS/Alarm) and noticed that the harnes had crimped wires. I would touch them (press down on them) and try strating my car and it worked or atleast thats what I thought was the problem. My car has continued to stall while driving and wont initially restart. Today I tried the same fix that had worked in the past and no dice. The car would not start. I waited and thought about calling AAA to come get me and tried starting it again and it started up.

My thoughts are that it might be the Factory Alarm and I thought about pulling the fuse.

Do I need the batteries in my Key if I am not using it as my Alarm? and if so how would I disable it?

any other advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Allen

No DTC's I presume? As I recall, a couple of different things can do this Cam Position Sensor and Relay Control Module (bad solder joints).

Search those terms?

Do a search under "mystery no start".

There is a lot of great information there.

I had this problem with our 2004 and we did not trust taking the car anywhere. It would die while driving on the freeway and in in town stop and go. Once I replace the relay module it has not given us any trouble since.

Is the Check Engine light on when the car is running? Look up Crank Postion Sensor.

If you have reached the 100K miles point, simply change your spark plugs and you should be on your way. I would change my wire at this point also. I had this problem and changed the position sensor according to the DTC, but that was not needed.

How bout an electrical issue. Alternator not putting out enough power so the battery is draining.. My 05 limited had almost 3V of AC current going to the battery. Bad rectifier bridge. Had to replace the battery and alternator. Previous owner never took car of the car.

Start with the crankshaft position sensor. When they go bad they very rarely throw a code that causes a CEL. However, if you pull up the code through STAR or a similar code reader it will be stored. When the sensor fails it will stall the car after driving. At first its long spurts and then gradually gets shorter.

mY 2004 DID THIS ON THE FREEWAY, after driving for about 30 minutes, and started up again after about 30 minutes. This behavior was repeated twice the next day, so I
Took it in to the dealer to have the computer check the codes, nothing.

They ran it a while and it died, and when they went to check out the codes discovered the module was hot to the touch( not supposed to be) so they replaced the processor. to the tune of 2.5 k $. The part was 1700$, and they had to install it and reprogram all the functions it controlled.

Both the mechanic and others I have talked to say this is a comon problem for this 3.2 litre DBenz engine, at 100k miles. mine had 101 k at the time.

That was a month ago, and the problem has not recurred...but I am keeping my AAA card handy.
hope this helps, email me if you need more info and I will find the paperwork.
Chuck

As others have said - Crank Position Sensor.

Don't guess. It's an easy fix and cheap.
