You mean like this?

McMaster-Carr

I've been looking at the different styles all night. I'll have to paint it silver.

In fact, I have some of this (textured black) installed around the edge of this sharp crap! Someone suggested I de-burr the edges. I challenged them to find a reasonable method. 4 points per inch X ~60". It would take a long time!

And as others have noted: a flash photo looks right through the mesh.

Yes Max thats what I had in mind , just don't know how well the paint would adhere to it? I'd try to make my bends first then give it an acetone wash, but then I see they do make it in ORANGE !

Orange.

You are a sick person.
Seek help.
Immediately!

I'll pre-form it and handle it with care on install. Should work, depending on how well I can taper the ends.

Max, ole' buddy, you are running into the same things I did...I even tried using flat metal 1/2" wide, maybe a 16th of an inch thick all around the outer edge on the back side to give it some rigidity. Just trying to shape it was a task, then had to tac weld it. I was painting mine black, so I didn't have to worry about chrome, but finally gave up...just couldn't hold the shape right...I see why Karl had to build his the way he did now that I have one, but I know I wouldn't like it in chrome...good luck, if anyone can make it work, you can...

Doc. And everyone else-there is no issue with it holding its shape. I massaged it to fit and it is very rigid. That 75 degree bend at the top makes it really stiff-not like working with a flat piece of stock.
The edging in the last pic is only to cover the sharp edges and to make it a bit more presentable.
The issue as I see it is the lower lip in the bumper cover that shows the 4 rectangular slots for the OEM grill.
What am I missing that all of you see?
TELL ME! I'm an idiot!

Actually, now that I see the picture of the top, it's perfect. If you can put that edge all along the bottom, it might save a lot of work and look great too. You did a better job than I have seen before, it's really quite appealing.

Thanks. I have an idea I'll fix that lip with-parts here tomorrow. We'll see!

I love the idea, I thought the prototype of this was the best AM grill. I agree with others about the 45deg. angle, and the larger mesh. I did this with the lower grill, and used door trim guard as a temporary solution. The problem is getting it perfectly smooth along the bends. It looks like you might have had an issue with this on the lower left side OR it could just be the camera (I have an older camera as well that doesn't do the car justice).
Love the idea, love the lip, good luck, and keep us posted.

Max, Where did you get that mesh from? I've been so thinking about doing this but with a larger mesh but nothing looks like it belongs on the front of our cars like what you found. Most of the stuff looks like it should be keeping chickens safe or leave out of the gutters. I'd take and bend it like you did on top but bend it on the bottom and sides just a 1/4 inch or so and tuck it into the factory grill mounting lip on the bottom. If I get ahold of some of this mesh, I'll be pretty busy making it happen. So glad someone finally found this stuff in bulk as I've been looking in all the wrong places for quite some time now.

This is what you want:

McMaster Carr

http://www.mcmaster.com/#

85385T23 Corrosion-Resistant Type 304 SS Wire Cloth 3 X 3 Mesh, .054" Wire Diameter

or:

85385T22 Corrosion-Resistant Type 304 SS Wire Cloth 3 X 3 Mesh, .063" Wire Diameter

Cut-n-paste the part number in the "Find" slot.

What I have in the photo is

85385T28 Corrosion-Resistant Type 304 SS Wire Cloth 4 X 4 Mesh, .047" Wire Diameter

That bigger wire is seriously stiff and hard to work.

Let us see!
