Add 20 hp???
Any of you Tech.s have any thoughts on this thing? It makes sence to me that if you can trick the fuel management system into thinking the intake air is cooler than it is that it will scedule more fuel..... Ultimately making some extra hp. But I'm not convinced that this thing can do the trick. Checkout the Ebay add that follows and let us know what you think. Thanks.
CHRYSLER CROSSFIRE TIMING ADVANCE KIT +20 HP
ADD 15 - 20 HORSEPOWER TO YOUR ENGINE WITH OUR TIMING ADVANCE KIT
THIS KIT IS DESIGNED ONLY FOR THE SPECIFIC ENGINE LISTED IN THE TITLE OF THE AUCTION:
We have spent a lot of time researching the optimal amount of resistance that would add the most power to your specific engine.
Your engine has the potential to put out more power than it currently is. Most people say they have noticed that their car performs better on colder days. This is because the intake is receiving cooler air. This timing advance kit uses a resistor to gtrickh your engine into thinking that it is taking in cool air all the time. This allows it to put out more power. Simple and effective. This kit shows the same results as some other modifications that cost as much as $400.00. The kit includes a resistor, with resistance OPTIMIZED FOR YOUR ENGINE, and step by step installation instructions. ANYONE can do it and there are no tools or mechanical experience required. You will notice the difference right away. I have this mod installed on both of my cars and I can honestly tell you that it works great. It can be easily removed and reinstalled at any time. Shipping is ONLY $2.00 and lightning fast. International shipping to any country is 3.50. Watch out for similar items selling on eBay charging excessive shipping fees. We accept Paypal, cash and money orders. Thanks for looking and good luck.

If an extra 20hp, with noticeable performance improvement and without compromising reliability/longevity of the engine, were as easy as plugging in a chip for a few hundred bucks, one would think DC would equip ALL yet-to-be built cars with such a mod, AND offer a DC warrantied kit to retrofit cars already sold. Overnight they'd sell 2781 of the things (or however many cars have been sold to date). Especially given the one constant rap against the car by all reviewers is the low hp. 235 hp sounds better, and at least puts it above the TT and right there with the RX8.
Guess I'm just cynical. Anxious to hook up with Rob in Va sometime soon to see how he likes his chip. The techncial explanations herein that question the overall safety of these things is troubling. The explanations SOUND credible, but I certainly have no knowledge to judge their veracity one way or another.

Lifes about balance, if they gave us the extra 20HP on the stock car [ which is obviously pretty easy ] we would then all be bitching because we are only getting 18MPG.
For my money 26MPG and 215BHP of sheer bliss is a bloody good balance.
I just love this car. It does everything perfectly, its not a raw in your face sports car like the 350Z. you could cruise for hundreds of miles no problem but hey when you want some fun, boy does she move.
So as an all round car, who needs the extra 20BHP!

not ONE person in all his feedback say it worked...
they only talk about his "fast" shipping (which is kinda what you want to know about ebay sellers) not if the product they bought worked or not.
THEN there are a few who do say "Didnt work, scam, ****, blah blah..." and this guy has the same response for all of them... "you got what my auction said you would, (product wise) and if it didnt work for you, you installed it wrong."
A handfull of people who apparently did try to use it, say it makes the check engine light come on and some said it fried some hard core sensors that cost $$$ to fix. (ofcourse seller says it is their fault)
basicly its a $.99 resister from radio shack and some instructions where to install it. thats really all the auction says aswell. he is walking the VERY FINE line....
my opinion, SCAM not worth the risk

Sounds like bunk to me. Engine management systems inject more fuel on a cold day because cold air is denser, and therefore contains more oxygen molecules per unit volume (and the airflow sensor only measures volume).
Without the extra oxygen, more fuel is likely to do no more than make the mixture too rich, with the extra gas getting taken out by the catalytic converter rather than being burned in the engine.
Still, there are a million other variables (atomization, mixture distribution, etc.), so you never know....

Actually most engine management systems will increase/decrease spark several degrees depending on air charge temperature (usually as a function of two tables that multiply together --- not sure why they use two tables, but they seem to always do that). More spark advance typically means more power (unless you get detonation), so in theory it will provide more power and force you to run more octane to prevent detonation.
The a/f ratio typically primarilly looks only at the MAF readings and is not tied to the air charge temperature (ACT). The MAF will read "mass air flow" and will adjust for temperature on it own. As a result, the a/f is not tied to the ACT except and the car should not run richer if this mod only screws with the ACT sender.
Nevertheless, under some conditions, the ECU will read the ACT and see that it is out of a specific operating range and command either more fuel, less spark, etc. This is usually on the high end though or during the start up sequence.
Bottom line -- try coming to MN and see if it makes a noticable difference to your performance (its about 10* right now). You need significant hp increase throughout the rpm curve to notice anything. This mod will not do it for you. Instead you risk running on a hot day sometime, having strong detonation and losing a piston. Just some thoughts.

Actually in theory the resistor will work. It simulates a lower temp. wich adds more fuel and advances timing. The addition of extra fuel will make the cylinder temperature cooler (richer mixture) the same way a recip. pilot controls cylinder head temperature (by increasing the mixture control).
Sounds like my idea to redirect the cool air from the air-con into the engine intake would really lower the air temp.
Wonder if it is possible to get an oxygen cylinder and enrich the O2 content of the mix at the same time.
Sounds like just tricking the engine into thinking it has more oxygen will reduce the engine life and reduce your economy.
