Default Power Window Switches...

Hey Gang,

As all of you must know, the power window switches operate backwards. Down is up and up is down.

Has anyone tried to take them out to reverse them in the console or rewire them??? Is there anything to it???

crossfiretech, anything on this???

Thanks and happy motoring...

Never had the console or switches apart yet.Usually chrysler switches and connectors snap in one way only.If it really bothers you,you could probably swap the wires in the window switch connector.

The area of the console that houses the window switches is really easy to take apart. At least for the manual, not sure about the auto. Just put your hand below the shifter boot to get a grip and pull up. It should come off fairly easily. Then just snap it back in to place.

I checked the manual online and the switches just have 2 wires.Switching them around should do the trick. The switches just have clips you squeeze together to pop out switch. You could also try and rotate the switch not sure if that would work.

crossfiretech,

Can anyone access the manual online or does it have to do with your job?

Thanks

prowler39,

Normally on a switch for a power window you push on the top part of the switch to make it go up. Push on the bottom side of the switch, it goes down. In the Xfire it's just the opposite. Take a look at the icon on the switch itself, you'll see what I'm talking about. It shows to close the window push on the top part... but it goes down instead.

It's nothing big, just a minor situation. Maybe the engineers did it on purpose just to make me have something to complain about. I'll get used to it someday.

I just checked my windows twice, I push on the top and the windows goes up push on the bottom and the windows go down . It could be I have a later model ( 5599 ) but it still has the bad radio desplay.
The cover does come of with ease. I wanting to disable that cup holder that comes open when I bump it while shifting, so maybe this is a way into the rest of the consol.

Only Chrysler employees can access the online manuals.

Mine don't seem backwards. I think of the window switches like the control stick on an airplane: forward = down; back = up.

I looked at the Icon on the switch, it has two arrows, one shows up the other is down, I think the Icon just indicates the switch controls the power windows!!!

I had my radio swapped out today, and I asked if the switches could be changed around, and I was told no.

If anyone figures out how to do it, post it, so we can all fix them

Default the switch CAN be turned around

Ha gang I am not crazy, :? My window switch does work right.

I checked again and found you can pull the switch out and flip it around and put it back in. I posted 3 pictures showing the process.

1 lift the panal .

2 use both thumb nails or whaterver to push the tabs in toward the center then push the switch out from the top.

3 turn the switch around and push it back in.

4 reverse step 1.

Now if I could figure out how to get rid of this winter weather here in Ohio I could go out and drine my Xfire.

Hey Gang,

Case closed... fixed my window switches!!!

Richard, you were 100% right about how to remove and reverse the switch. Thanks for posting the pics!!!

I did take it one step further tho... after you reverse the switch the icon is now upside down at the bottom of the switch. Carefully from the side, pry the top part off the switch, reverse it and put it back on. The icon is now back on the top part of the switch as well. Push the top of the switch, window goes up... push on the bottom, window goes down.

PS: jsisabella... march right back to your dealer and have him check how the power window switches work on all the other models on his lot.

The switch on some Xfire's "are" installed ***-backwards.

Tell him all he has to do to fix it is to:

1. Remove the switch
2. Remove the cover with the window icon from the switch
3. Reverse the switch, put the cover back on and replace it

Now it works like every other power window switch in the vehicles on his lot...

I checked out my switches and if I press the upper part of the switch which has the icon the window goes up. Press the bottom of the switch the window goes down...

RedFire,

Okay, I stand corrected... the power window switches operate backwards on "some" of the cars. Glad yours work the way it's supposed to.

Richard

Thanks. Looks fairly straight forward. Should there be any difference in removing the console with an auto stick compared to the six speed?

I think I will wait until it warms up a bit and just do it myself............

It is 18 degrees and the forcast is for 2-4 inches of snow tomorrow. I am really starting to hate winter, even thought this one has been fairly mild until the last few weeks.

On an optomistic note, it is only 9 weeks until spring!!!

;-)
