Default First oil change

We had our first oil change done for free at our dealer last week. Yesterday I drove it several miles and had the oil light come on and off, on and off. Checked the dip stick and found it to be 2 quarts low. Stopped by the dealer and told him simply because this was their first one and I thought they should know. The tech, John said the manual they had said 6 quarts, (just like the owners manual) but the Chysler rep who just happened to be visiting the dealership said that the manual has been ammended to show 7.5 quarts with a oil change. I know this has been spoken of in other threads on the forum but thought I would pass this on. Lucky I had 0w-40 in the garage.

Still loving the ride!

I guess they had one of there quick lube kids do the oil change since it was free.Just because the manual says 6 qts. is no excuse not to double check the dipstick.

Or the dash board.....I check the dash read out at every gas up.........and after the oil change. On my first oil change they put in only 6Q, thats what
the book told them. The dash monitor said 1.5Q low, Tech went back and found the emendment to his book, and topped it off. He had been a little
concerned that the book said 6.5Q, the dip stick read low and the oil filler
cap reads DO NOT OVER FILL .

Just wondering if the manual error is not also regestered in the omputer software?

In other words does the internal display match the dipstick?

I hate to say it, but this is one more example of the fallacy of Chrysler's Five Star nonsense. I guarantee you this scene will be repeated at Five Star Dealers across the country.

The key to this problem is to let your service advisor know of the discrepancy in the book and to make sure the lube guy knows. After they do a couple they'll get the hang of it, I'm sure.

Till then, I'll be double checking the oil level before I accept the car back.

Infinity..... I think you better check your oil level if they only put 7.5 qts in it. I just had mine changed and it was 8.5 w/ filter. You may be a quart low.

Checked it after driving - still good. Was right there with the tech as it was done.

typically you would need to add a qt doe the filter, however it looks as if the design allows the filter to drain when off.

Still need to check it tomorrow when it is cold, to make sure.

My first change had some similarities. In another post here, somewhere, but.

Got the change. On the way home, the oil light came on and then went back off. I tried to pretend it was the computer resetting itself, or something equally as normal.

When I got home and climbed out, the whole place reeked of burnt oil. Called the dealer, they assured me at the time they put in 7.5. After a huge snafu geting the car flat-bedded back to the dealership, and three weeks of it in there 'care' they never found anything wrong (that they admitted to, even though it wasn't "ready" for about two-and-a-half weeks). No spillage burns that they could find, oil at correct level, everything in place, etc,.

No problems since (though I was kind of hoping it would burn out there for a while). I have serious reservations about what to do when it needs its second change (another month, I estimate). I am thinking a Mercedes shop might be better suited to do this. But, I would recommend if you see the light flash after a change, stop and give the hood a good sniff, just incase.
