I got a call from the guy about 20 minutes ago. The flu really ripped him over the weekend but he'll be in tomorrow. I have an appointment at 8:00 in the morning to give this thing a horsepower injection.

Man, wanted it today!!! :P

Some good things you have to wait for... you'll be grinning ear to ear very soon!!! Keep us posted.

BTW I put 200 city miles on mine this past weekend... very, very little dust.

Isn't it nice not to cringe when you hit the brakes because you are visualizing the dust covering your wheels?

As for the Chip.... Tomorrow can't come soon enough!

Well, tomorrow is here and I need the change the title of this thread to.... "Got Mine Chipped!"

I just got back from getting it done. I haven't done any time tests yet. I will do that when I get home. What I can report is that the diference is noticeable. Especially when you nail it to pass someone on the interstate. The Mid-range power is greatly improved. And I have the stock air filters installed. I'm a very happy camper!!! :P

I will post the results of my timing tests this evening.

Are there any negative effects of having the car chipped?

I mean if it is a benefit in all aspects (power, gas mileage, engine wear), why isn't the car programmed like this from the start?

ECU's are de-tuned for a lot of reasons, mostly like has been said different driving styles, different environmental issues, different octane's of fuel, etc. etc. Perfect example, the manual says to use "Premium Fuel only". In some places, "Premium" is 91 Octane, in some places it's 93, in other places who knows... So do you think they tune for 93 (like I can get here), or 91? Or something even worse??? I can put 93 in my car, but I got money says the car ain't REALLY taking advantage of it, but with I chip upgrade I CAN (and WILL soon) get those hidden pony's!

See there... I told you it was worth the wait. Now that grin from ear to ear is even bigger than it would have been. I'll bet your face is big time hurting right now from the big grin!!!

Did I read that correctly that you shaved 1/2 second off the 0-58 by installing a K&N filter?

Also, how's the car running with the new flash chip?

Got my Alabaster white 6 speed Yesterday

Is this "Chip" you speak of at all effective for manual transmission cars?

Congrat.s on the new Crossfire... Great choice of colors.. :P

I don't know about shaving off 1/2 second on this car.... I have seen the road test reports from Road & Track and other sources that posted 0 - 60 times from 6.4 - 6.7 seconds. I also know that they were all using the 6 speed trans. What I don't know about their tests are... Was traction control on or off? What was the OAT (outside air temp)? etc....

Here's what I do know and how I came to these numbers... First off I am using a stop watch (not the most accurate method, but a good ball-park figure) All test were 0 - shift to 3rd (approx. 58 mph)

Stock setup (no K&N or power chip) OAT 45*

Traction control on................ 6.301 sec.
" " off................ 6.035 "

With chip and stock air filters OAT 62*

Traction control on................ 5.983
" " off................ 5.806

With Chip and K&N filters

Traction control on.................5.846
" " off................ 5.704

All and all I'm very happy with the results.

Now for the sensory perseptions..... It feels like it's launching harder. It will now brake the rear tires loose with the traction control off when launching it in a straight line. But the most noticeable is the increase in mid-range torque (2400 - 4500 rpm). Before it would kind of go flat... still pulling but not as hard... Now it pulls strong all the way to redline.

In conclusion..... For me it's been well worth the time and money. And actually I think at just under $500.00 for the chip and K&N filters it's a good deal.

Congrats!

Hey, earlier in the thread (or elsewhere?), I thought you'd said you were getting about 5.8 something with stock chip and K&N. Am I remembering that right? I mean, if that's the case, a $100 K&N filter got you to 5.8 something just like your numbers above got you to 5.8 something with the $400 chip And the filter on top of the chip only shaved another .1 seconds :?: :?: From a pure 0-60 perspective, sounds like the filter is a better bang for the buck than the chip! So which K&N part# ?

Of course that discounts the other improvements in driving feel throughout the range, which it sounds like the chip has done a really good job with. Mine too seems to 'kind of go flat' in the midrange...eliminating that would be a good thing (worth $400 IMO).

That's what I got before I removed the K&N and reistalled the stock filters, prior to the chipping. If you will notice the OAT was 45* when I tested with the stock filters installed. I don't know what the OAT was when I tested the first tome w/ K&N. My guess is that it was cooler than 45*, but I don't know. These are the numbers I got yesterday and it was 18* warmer than when I tested with everything stock. That may be responsible for the difference.

As for the gain with the chip. I wish I had gone somewhere and gotten a good 1/4 mile time before I did the chip. I'm thinking that 1/4 mile times would really show that the chip is well worth the money. I will be going to Va. Motorsports park this summer for a MOPAR Madness Weekend and I'll get my 1/4 mile times then.

I'm still trying to find someone that can figure out how to get a Dyno run on this car. I'm sure that someone has done them on the SLK. There has to be a way to trick the ECU into iether ignoring the fact that the front wheels aren't rolling or to trick it into thinking they are.

Here's a link to the Tidewater Mopar club's calendar. I won't be able to make it to the first one (Apr. 2.) I will be on Okllahoma City for some meetings. I will be at Event #2, The Va. Beach Boardwalk show (Both days) and I will go to Va. Motorsports park for Event #4.

The next autocross is on Mother's Day. I already got permission from the "Boss"

How much of the decreased times are due to improved transmission performance (e.g., better shift points, higher line pressure, etc.)? Or, did they leave all this stuff alone and just focus on the spark and a/f tables.

Based on my 6-speed, I would really like to see some improvements to the accel/decel decay rates along with the a/f and spark table changes.

I was told that the fuel management and shift Points as well as timing curve would be modified. It does shift a little earlier into 3rd. It's shifting at the same speed 58 mph but the shift is more positive with no lag.

I just got an email from the Upsolute Fairfax guy. He can do my car tomorrow (same deal you got Wes, same guarantee) if he can get the file in time. I told him he could probably get the code from your Upsolute guy, though I dunno if there's any difference in ECU parameters between your 0028xx and my 0129xx. I note my manual specifically says it's for cars built after 1 October 2003, I think your was built before that (?) so don't know how different it might or might not be.
