Ok, I am kinda new and a huge fan of the Crossfire. Knowing that the car is based on the 98 to 2004 Mercedes R170 or known in the USA as the SLK, has anyone thought of modifying the SLK hood to fit on the crossfire and make a Mercedes C class grill or new SL grill to fit the front end?

It has been nearly impossible to get aftermarket companies to make things for the Crossfire. Just about anything that has been done to benefit the forum commutinty has been either done members. Currently there are members working on hoods, spoilers and diffusers.

I looked at the MB grilles and there would be too much work to actually modify them for sale. There have been a number of individuals that have done a lot of custom work and shared their progress in the Gallery.

Welcome to the forum. You have a lot of reading to catch up on.

Enjoy

Well yeah, I can understand that a whole SLK front end would look like crap, because it doesn't go with the lines of the XF. What I was suggesting was some how modifying the hood of the SLK and fabricate a grill that resembles or modify the grill from the 2008 C300. Personally I think the blistered hood from the SLK if the front lip was modified right could possibly look hot. then again maybe any style hood that didnt have the Sebring ribs or one that was a bit smoother would be an improvement. I just dont like the rib and the lines in the hood... looks too busy.. or over done. Dont get me wrong though.. the XF is the most beautiful car I have seen on the road.... just not that fond of the Chrysler hood.... and it looks like there are other people in the same boat.

I don't like the hood, or any of the front end (headlights, grille...). The fenders are cool, but I've been pondering changing everything else. From head on, it looks way too much like a Sebring.

Where do you think they got the idea for the Sebring hood?

2007 Chrysler Sebring

2007 Chrysler Pacifica

I would say that the Sebring and the Pacifica hoods looks way too much like the Crossfire hood!

I rented a new Sebring a couple weeks ago, and the new ones do not have lines on the hood.

BTW when the Crossfire was first announced Chrysler claimed that its (Crossfire) styling was a harbinger of future Chrysler products. Looks like Chrysler kept their word!

It doesn't matter which came first - it's what's there now that matters. Everything else about the XFire is *unique*.
