Default Headlamp Freaking Switch!

Just spent a thousand dollars getting a new cylinder lock and housing put in only for the dealer 2 tell me I need a headlamp switch cause the one I have is now bad! They want another 600 dollars out of me!! I have searched around here 2 look for the part # for the headlamp switch 2 see if I can find it cheaper than the 400 they want for it. Have had some success but any other help would be GREATLY appreciated. RAAAAAAA

If you buy one from ebay check with the seller to see if they will do a refund, return, or guarantee for the product, and check their feedback. This may help with your decision. But if want new, those prices are about the cheapest you will get, and yes its easy to swap out yourself, so save your money atleast on labor cost.

Cool! Thanx for the info Kub. Looks easy enough but you never know with these crazy cars. In the book at the Dealership they have it listed as a 2 1/2 Hr job at 100 an hour!!!! I'm in the wrong business

It's really easy. There are only 3 screws that hold the headlamp switch in place. But the problem is you may need to losen the bottom panel to get it out. Its maybe a 30 minute job.

you know for being such a common part to fail, I would think there would be a recall on all crossfires for headlight switch, and ignition lock.

I know I will never buy a Mercedes product for as long as I live after dealing with such poor quality from a company who does nothing but rest on it's luarels. should of bought a Honda or a Ford mustand I guess... oh well lesson learned Fuc German products

Argh! My high beams just went out today. Assume I've got the same issue. What do I need to do here to check out the problem? Pull the switch assembly and check the fuses on it? Or just buy an assembly and pop it in?

Mophreakous, sorry to hear about your problems! But how hard was it to pull the assembly out? I've found instructions here on another thread, but also came across a mention of how this wasn't for the timid. Instructions didn't seem too difficult to follow, though, so wondering what makes this hard, if anything.

Well, my parking lights and fog lights stayed on without me turning them on. Happened when I got it back from the dealer(coincidence?) Was told I need a new switch and they wanted 600 clams! Researched and with the help of others in the forum I found one on ebay for 50$ I put it in and now the driver side parking lights will not come on, nor either side when you turn the switch to the left. Not hard at all to do just time consuming with the small space to work in. Guess I'm gonna have 2 buy a new one, if that doesn't work I got a problem..... Hope this helps

Thanks for the note! Sorry to hear the cheap solution didn't work out for you. I just bought one on eBay for $80, comes with a six-month guarantee, so wish me luck. Just wondering though -- do you know if it's the switch that's faulty, or do you maybe have an issue with the turn signal switch as well? See some posters here saying you often need to change both switches when this sort of thing happens. Hope this isn't the case for either of us. I sure don't want to tackle that turn signal switch, as it seems like that's a bigger hassle with having to remove the steering wheel (if I'm reading the threads right).

BTW, to remove the old headlight switch and install the new one, did you follow the instructions here? Those seem pretty involved. I was hoping I could just remove the fuse panel, pull the screws in there, and then slide the switch straight out. Hoping it's gonna be that easy, and that I don't have to mess around underneath the steering wheel, pulling panels off.

Was really frustrated when this problem showed up, especially when reading here at first about the potential cost. Then took the car out for a good long run with the top down in the sunshine and I'm in love with it again...
