Default System Wiring?

I need to run a 4 guage power wire to the inside of the car from the battery. I'm looking for the best location. Hopefully I don't have to drill through the firewall.

Anyone done this yet?

I did this already. There is a large 2" diameter grommet between the cabin and the engine in the passenger footwell behind the battery. Take out the battery and the battery mounting bracket and you should be able to see it. There are several premolded "nipples" that can be trimmed off to open them up. There are already a few wires passing through the grommet with several spare nipples available.

Remove the side panel (if I remember correclty) in the footwell and pull the carpet back to access the grommet from the inside.

Let me know if you have more questions. I'll look to see if have some photos I can put in my album.

It would be easier if you ran a hanger or hooked metal wire through the grommet from the inside and then wrapped the wire around that hanger and pull the wire through. Then you don't have to trim any nipples ... which doesn't sound like a good thing.

Definitely not. The nipples are designed for doing this very thing.

DFWSBR, check out my album for some photos that may help. I mounted the amps in the rear fender wells and have removed most interior panels so let me know if you have questions.

Nice. I was taking out most of those interior parts yesterday. I didn't have my small torx bits with me so I had to stop. The door trim torx screws that hold the carpet to the rear of the seats. Any chance behind that is there a way to pass wires through to the rear of the hatch?

You mentioned installing amps behind the trim in the fender wells. Got pic's of that? I'm only installing the Reference 1000 which is quite large, wasn't going to get too fancy with it. Did that with the last car. Was just going to mount it just behind the drivers seat. If it fits in the fender well, that would be better.

Did you do a subwoofer box, or just replace the factory subs?

I'm going to need to design a box for one of the 2 JL 12w6's I have, and make it removeable. I don't want the extra weight running 2 of em. Between the MDF and weight of the speakers the rear will look like its lowered =/ Keeping things somewhat simple.

More pix added.

Once you remove the plastic trim that the seatbelt passes through .... I'm trying to remember here... and possibly the window trim, there is a 4" thick piece of foam on each side that the cables can be passed under or beside. The foam blocks are under the outside edges of the wall behind the seats.

I replaced the rear speaks with Focal "sub" drivers using a custom adapter. The P/N is something like 5L. They're small but produce decent bass. I didn't want to eat up the already-small trunk with a sub box. The rear speaker cavity opens up into the gas tank area so I stuffed some foam in there to seal it up a bit.

I put foam in the bottom of the rear fender wells to support the amps and then anchored each one with a metal strap. You can barely see the anchor in the Alpine photo in my album (behind a cable on the left).

The great thing about putting the amps there is that the air coming into the cabin exits through vents in the fender wells. So if you you have the fan running, you'll have air flowing past the amps.

One thing I noticed when replacing the door speakers is that they were wet after it had rained. So when I installed my new Focals, I built a little shield over each one to keep the rain off.

Is there a service manual available for the Crossfire like the one that Helms Inc. makes for Acuras and Hondas? That would be useful. I don't think I'll ever buy a car and not buy its service manual.

I bought the Chrysler shop manual in book form. It's available as two books or on CD.

I don't know that this is the same place where I bought mine... but here's a link.

Update: that is the same place I bought mine... manual p/n is 81-270-04036. Ph: 800-890-4038
