Shell Rotella T6 Full Synthetic
Has anyone used Shell Rotella T6 Full Synthetic oil in their Crossfire? I recently purchased my car from a dealership, so I assume it has 0w-40 in it. I wanted to make the switch to 5w-40, and Shell Rotella seems to a lot cheaper as opposed to Mobil-1.
It says it meets MB approval for the 228.31 specification...
I'm not quite sure what the specs are for our engines?
Help please!

Been running it in my 04 since my last oil change in December but that's the extent of my experience with the oil. Odds are I'll continue to use it unless I come across some compelling reason to stop. If it meets the specs, and saves me a few buck while doing so, that's good enough for me!

My Dad was a member of one of the top Sprint car teams in the country, his crew chief ( USAC crew chief of the year) swears by Rotella and I ran it for years in my Porsche turbo with never an issue.
That's not the right spec, 229.31 is different than 229.3 and it doesn't show up on the 229.3 or 5 lists.
The spec lists are on page 3 of this thread:

From the manual:

From the manual:
For best performance and maximum protection under all
types of operating conditions, only use synthetic engine
oils, approved to MB 229.3 or MB 229.5, such as Mobil 1
SAE 0W-40.types of operating conditions, only use synthetic engine
oils, approved to MB 229.3 or MB 229.5, such as Mobil 1
If you can wait, there are deals for mobil1 every now and then. Like $4-5 per quart, just stock up then. I still have enough for 3 oil changes from the last Mobil1 Deal.
You could also use what the dealership uses which isn't mobil1.
Look at attached pdf

Not sure but I believe Rotella T6 Full Synthetic is approved for diesel burning MB's and as pointed out previously our Crossfire spec number differs just a bit. As a side note a lot of motorcycle riders use Rotella T6 because of the higher ash and zinc content.

Oil is cheap at any price, engines are not.

It's about $23 a gallon. Haven't checked at Walmart (I really need to), but hopefully it's even cheaper there.
Edit: A quick scan on google showed me a forum where guys are talking about 1 gallon of Shell Rotella T6 being $18.88
