LOSING COOLANT IN SRT6 (any ideas)
Interesting, I am losing coolent. It is not leaking on the ground. It is not coming out the exhust. It is not showing up in the oil. But, it is dissapearing. Where tf is it going? The dealer service manager is going to drive it for a few days and measure the loss. They have no clue where it is going. My extended warrenty is with Fedelity as opposed to Chrysler and they will only pay if there is a factual problem.....Ghosts don't count.....The dealer must be able to say this is what is causing the problem. If it were the Chrysler extended Warrenty, they could simply tear the engine down to find or not find the problem without costing me anything other than the $100 deductible.
This coolent loss issue has been going on for a few months.
Any ideas.
Last week the dealer replaced the CPS. They will be replacing the O2 sensor today.
The car had been missing, showing misfire on cylinders 1,3,4. I would pull over, turn the car off and restart the car and it would run fine. The engine light comes on and the pending codes were misfire. That is why the CPS was replaced. I only drove the car for a week when the engine light came back on with the O2 sensor code and coolent light. The car's temperature fluctuates slightly just below too just above the 1/2 way mark.

When I was losing coolant on my BMW, it was pretty obvious (and quite depressing).
In my case, it turned out to be a cracked Block (aluminum) due to the car overheating once, in very hot weather.
And a blind man could see the issue, as I was blowing white smoke from the exhaust.
When the block was pulled and inspected, it looked perfect to the untrained eye, but upon close inspection with a magnifier, you could see the telltale hairline crack.
I would think if your losing coolant and suspect an engine tear down, you'd see something in the exhaust, or possibly a wet spot somewhere in the engine indicating a coolant leak.
Perhaps a pressure test on the cooling system will turn up something...???
(Just reread your post ~ you indicate the exhaust is clean ~ disregard the Block...lol...)

yes, I believe Woody is on to something...it's under the s/c Randy...not something you will want to do.. Rob had a thread about fixing his awhile back...
i agree, id bet you have a leaking intercooler, you can pull off one of the intake manifolds and look inside it. if the IC is leaking you will see the fluid there. in every case we have seen yet the intercooler has been not repairable and required a new intercooler (dealer wants about a grand for a new one).
My intercooler has a slight leak and most of the goop ends up in the passenger side manifold. If your going to pull one I suggest the passenger side. I don't know if the plugs would show signs of the coolant or not. When I pulled my plugs I couldn't see anything abnormal.

I have the same exact issues and have been working with my dealer for 2 months to get it corrected, luckily it's still coverred. If it is an intercooler, it will not show in the standard Chysler collant system pressure check, thier collant dye checks or coolant exhaust gas checks.
The car will need a intercooler pressure test for leaks or you can pull the intake manifold and look for the stains. The plugs do not show discoloration unless you have a head gasket leak as the coolant is being too evenly distributed to the cylinders with a minor intercooler leak.
My O2 sensor also failed and the car was showing cylinder misfire codes, I think this is a common early onset of the coolant being burned, the O2 sensor failing will show on different cylinders at different times.
Are you using a dealer to get it fixed? If so I think we should get them both talking to save you some time and trouble.
I'll send you a PM with my number.

He is a great guy....never stated once his car was....had been run hard and put up wet many times....I know I was right beside it...sometimes, more so than not, just slightly behind it....made a few mods since those times....lol....It is a proven ride though....we will all have to fix this problem down the road it sounds like...
The car was on you tube, and was on a few "burn out" photos...right here on the forum....that should have given you a little knowledge of the car's history...Mine sees the track once in a great while, the roadster that is, and the coupe has yet to make it's debut. As long as you service them, treat them right, replace what you break, the cars that see the track and are parked in the garage the rest of the time, are quite ready when needed. Mine gets the best of everything. Of course, they aren't for sale either...but when the time comes, most know the cars already....from this forum...and the get togethers...

Randy i told you a while back that Rob had the same problem and that it was your intercooler,,not the heat exchanger,,, sorry man i just hope the warranty takes care of it, and with you it will jim
Well I'll be the first to say it, I think 50% have this problem to some extent and 99% don't know it. My car runs great and the only reason I know is because I took my manifolds off to put on the Needswing's teflon coated Y pipe and saw the goo. I'll be looking for a replacement in a relaxed fashion .... if it gets worse or I find a bargain.

The seller did discuss a coolant leak on the forum and had it in the shop to be checked but went back and changed/deleated the posts, he also included three gallons of collant in the trunk with the other spare parts that went with the sale?
The price was right, no issues I can't or haven't fixed and it came with gold coverage.
Update on my coolent leak. Dealership says the replacement intercooler is on back-order. Appearently there is somewhat of a demmand on intercoolers for this engine. The estimate is 1 week to get the car back.

Now they want to change the Cats under Chrysler emisions waranty.
ps I had to put my butt on the line for $850 and ok the tear down to find the problem. Thanks to the Crossfire forum members I felt comfortable with the diagnosis.
