Check Engine Light Reset Now Off BUT
2007 Xfire roadster. Check engine light went on, no noticeable drivability issues. Took to Chrysler dealer, told me it was emission control purge valve and cannister that had to be replaced. Parts had to be special ordered and they made me prepay. They gave me the car back and said OK to drive until parts come in, and the check engine light was now OFF. Over a week later, still waiting for the parts (over $750 plus labor) and the check engine light is still off, and car drives just fine. Does this sound like an unnecessary repair and a momentary glitch that was sensed by onboard diagnostics?
Personally if it was mine, I would have read the code, recorded it, then cleared it. Drove it until it comes on again to be sure it wasn't a glitch.
Not sure what you can do now that the parts are ordered.

Nice car, James. I went to college near you, but it was Redskins in those days, not Redhawks. I think you are right. Unfortunately, I don't have a code reader or know how to get them otherwise. Recommendations welcome. I am looking to getting one of those plugs to attach to my iPad or laptop. Dealers seem to repair via trial and error themselves, and they have no problem just replacing parts at my expense. This is my second Xfire. Had a black '05 on lease which was perfect and bought the '07, and that one has has some problems.

Update: Still no CEL, and can you believe that parts still haven't come in over 2 weeks later? I spoke to dealer (DodgeC/J Dealer in Doral, FL) all the way up the ranks. My service advisor really seemed to take my case. He was respectful and did not try to make me fell like I was ignorant about car repair, which I am not. I mentioned I was on this forum and CarTalk.com and all the responses were essentially the same. I haven't gotten the check yet (so maybe I should not assume it's on its way), but they called me to tell me they are refunding the charges.
