Throttle body?

Throttle body?
told that my 2004 with 30k miles needed a new throttle body. So I ignore that And the check engine light for about 18k miles now. So I wondered what might cause it to go bad so soon or if I'm doing any damage without fixing?
Is this a common problem for the car?
