Default A/C troubles

do these cars have Air conditioning troubles?

Noticed the a/c was not working very well last week, I did not have any 134a gauge conecters, so I took it to a freinds garage and he weighed out the charge and found it to be 5oz low, he evacuated the system weighed in the correct charge and used dye to check for a leak, non were found!

What I noticed when we realized there was a problem is that the fan never shuts off, even when switched to the "O" position, I don"t recall if it did that before? after the top up the car was getting cool for the first 15 min. then it was as if it (the compressor) shut down, and the temp in the cab started to rise, and the vent by the driver side window on the dash was expelling warm air (hot last week before the top up) has anyone else encountered anything like this is my fan not working corectly?

I can not even utilize the outdoor air to cool the cab (20deg-C-68deg-F) I changed out the stock air intake to the engine with a Needswings CAI, is there anything I may have done to create a problem doing this upgrade? possibly a vacume line issue?

could there be a problem with the coolant thermostat? not much of an auto mechanic (more of a parts changer)

Any help would be appreciated

Thank you,

Angelo

Most times the blower controller ( module ) burns out and causes blower motor problems, do a thread search on this, you'll find all kinds of them relating to the blower motor and the fan controller. It's an easy repair to do its located under the passenger side of the dash where the blower motor assembly is also. I'm sure some one else will chime in and give you some more help, let us know how it goes.

Found this on the site, sounds like I, may be on the right track?

In my case, I replaced the blower control (resistors) which is located under the glove compartment. It is bolted to the blower motor. The resistors solved my problem. I bought it from www.AutohausAZ.com under 2004 Mercedes SLK 320. Good Luck.
his by surching the site, this could be my problem as my blower always runs and does seem to be on high!

If you were 5oz low then there is a leak or it never was in there. That's about 1/6th of the total.
A/C systems can blow hot air when the refrigerant is not cooled enough. Condenser blocked or if the fan is not working when you are parked.
With the A/C off you say you have warm air, if so the relays may not be closing down the engine coolant to the heater core. Hopefully this is the case.
The cold air intake goes over the heater relays, did you knock something?

I'm going to retrace my steps before the CAI instal, I do not beleive I hit anything, but that means notheing! I am sceptical of the lack of 132a as I also beleive there should have been a leak found, however I have never owned the car in hot weather and had thought the a/c system was weak so it may have been short on charge from any number of reasons (improper removal of hoses at some point?) but like i said I do not rcall the interiour fan running all the time, and I have read now there is a problem with some resister on the fan motor possibly.

I will dig when I have tim, right now im away from home 15hrs a day on a large project and don't feel like doing much of anything lately!

Thanks Dave
