Default Is it worth CHIPPING my 2005 Roadster?

I was looking for some feedback from those of you who have chipped your cars. My XF is a leased 2005 Roadster

auto or manual? My feeling is the chip makes the most sense for auto's.

I would have to say that the chipping is about the best thing I've done to my car. I have had no problems and the performance and fuel mileage improvement is well worth the $400.

Me too. And ditto what Wes just said. I have NO problems since getting chipped. I CAN feel the difference in "buttdyno" testing. My fuel economy is better (though I chipped so soon, likely that's a combo of engine breaking in AND the chip).

One thing I WOULD like to know is in some of the threads it sounds like Rene at Upsolute may have a better map for the Crossfire now? If that's true, I wonder if there is a free (or minimal charge) upgrade to those of us early Upsolute adopters that gave him the data to make it better???

I don't think there's an update to our chip mapping. There was one person that had a different base program than the rest of us have. If I remember right his was a very early production number. I'm sure that if there was a better map that Rene would let me know. I'll email him anyway just to make sure.

I had mine chipped in the U.K last week and can certainly feel the difference in mid range pull.Mines auto and the changes feel slicker and less of them as the power comes in from 2500rpm, from 60 up you really notice the difference even in D no need for kickdown from 80 plus for fast overtaking.
Price in U.K ’305
These were the figures sent to me last week ,new ones slightly to right of old.

I had mine done last Saturday and the program used was for the MB 230CLK and it was definately worth the expense.
Wednesday my man called to let me know that he now has a program "Specifically" for the Crossfire and it produces MORE power!!
I am going for the upgrade tomorrow.
Will use my "UNCALIBRATED" device to see any difference.

Default Chipping

Hey Redcross;

Was your chipping done by upsolute? I brought my 2005 roadster to Lanny Richardson in Chino Hills, CA, He downloaded my file and suggested that I not chip my car till 2000 miles. I only have 400 miles on it

Correct me if I am wrong... it sounds as tho they screwed up the first time. Isn't the CLK 230 engine a 2.3L 4cyl that puts out 198hp stock? According to Upsolute's website you can expect 228hp after having it chipped.

It would seem your car was chipped to the "wrong" specifications the first time around and all they are now doing is to go back and chip it as it should of been in the first place... for the SLK 320/Crossfire 3.2L 215hp engine... 238hp after being chipped. :?

Upsolute does a very good job and for around $400.00 it's the best deal out there... IMO

NO NO NO NO!!!!!!
I wrote it wrong 320CLK NOT 230CLK!!!!!!!!!!
I gotta proof my writing better. ops:
It wasn't wrong before but the company has now set up a better, more powerful program just for the Crossfire. I put 500 miles on the first version and felt more power in the mid-range up to 130mph!! Was still pulling but ran out of road!!
The company is SpeedTuningUSA and is based in AUSTRIA.
The shop I used for my Turbo Beetle and the Crossfire is located in Spencerville Maryland.
Trouble free in the Beetle for over three years!!
The mod worked fine before and the newer version is really hard to tell much difference.
I had mine done at 1500 miles and the update at 2000.

This Company IS NOT a fly-by-night outfit, they are pros specializing in MB/AUDI/BMW/VW..................

dyno chart of JD's chip... blue is stock, red is optimized. Don't know though if this is the old or the new program. Probably the old.

PS = HP. 1 lb-ft = .738 Nm if you wanna convet those torque numbers to something we non-metric folks can understand.

This sounds just like Upsolute. They too are based in Austria and only do German cars. I wonder if the 2 companies have any ties?

Very good question! :?:
BUT one thing that IS better is the cost I paid of $313.99!!!!!!!!!! 8)

REDCROSS still won't break the tires loose (control off) but you get a bit of a tingle from the "G" force when you lay into it from a dead start and she was pulling good until we ran out of road.

Man for the AUTOBAHN for just a couple of hours!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'd settle for a couple hours on a drag strip or deserted airfield, to make some timed runs. I am thinking of getting K&N's, but am waiting until I find the right time and place to baseline with my MR DYNO. From looking back at Wes's original numbers, seems he got a bigger performance boost from the K&N's than from the chip. But it'd be really cool to to get some chipped (different brands) and non-chipped Crossfire's together somewhere with the various in-car performance monitors we have and do a somewhat scientific study...

David, Am I reading you correct in that Wes got a bigger boost from the K&N's than he did with the chip???
