check your flex disks!!
I never took a transmission class while in school , so this only scares me because I don't know what I'm looking or how I'm supposed to make sure this won't happen to me ..
So would the trans need to be dropped or is it in such a place that getting the car lifted I could do a quick inspection?
Also does anyone know what mb rates a 'normal' life span for the flex disc? I know we got a tough durable trans but of course it ain't perfect

Pretty sure the owner's manual says 4 years or 50k miles. I think that's where I read that. With a lift or a jack they're easy to inspect and replace. In fact the rear can be done without jacking up the car.

Just looked and it looks like I'll need new flex disks..well, immediately. Unfortunately, I can't find them on RockAuto or anywhere else, and certainly not for $40 each! Anyone here know where to get a new set for cheap?
Hi, I have ordered mine from Rob, I think it was around 80USD
I wasn't aware that Rob sold these. I've not seen them on his site, but if he does I would say, support our vendor.

Here's the reply :
Hello, sure, we only deal with oem Mercedes on these as the quality is crucial on such a part.
The front we can get for you for 135, the rear would be 109. Shipping would be $9, so total of 253 shipped. We have the fronts in stock, the rear would take 2-3 days to get in. let me know if you are ready and I can shoot over an invoice thru paypal or we can do cc over the phone.
Thanks, Rob

I was gonna spring for the $80 just for peace of mind - think I'll wait for symptoms at the $253 level.

I had to look under Mercedes SLK320 any model year between 01-04 will work. They were $40 a piece when I bought mine a few months ago. Took about 3 hours to drop the differential and put everything back together.
There is no need to drop the diff. Loosen the carrier and the rear shaft slides forward. On the front the shaft will collapse enough to swap the disc. Yes replace both. They should be the same.
I'll send them an email and see if they plan on restocking anytime soon. There's no way in hell I'd be able to swing $253 for a set of those right now.
, is this the flex disk for our cars? front and rear?
