Finally got to go for a ride. Sounds and performs great. The tubing is about the same, but the exhaust ports on the stock muffler are a tad under 2". Borla is a little over 2.75". Sent a MPG file to DFWSBR to post for me. If it's not to big (5MB), should be on this board soon.

I agree that if you use an outside shop for the Magnaflow muffler installation, it may try their patience ( Read MORE expensive) to cut and fabricate the OEM tips to fit back on the car. I likewise agree that maybe round tips may not be esthetically pleasing considering the shape of the body opening.

But again knowing what I know now, I think I would go with some Magnaflow straight tips, either round or square. It would cut several hours off the job due to the dissimilar sizes and curvature of the pipes going to the tips. The hardest part of this job was cutting, fitting, and proper alignment of the OEM tips.

Like you, I finally decided that I wasn't going to spend the best part of a grand on a Borla exhaust. This was something I could do myself. The sound of the little car now, made all the effort worthwhile.

To answer a previous request for photos looking inside the exhaust toward the cats, it was not possible to get any pics due to the pipes being curved. This car has its primary cats forward close to the outlet of the headers and secondary ones toward to middle of the car. Sorry I couldn't be of any help in this area.

nope it has to be oblong...

I am looking for some that will fit right now... I will post pictures if I find a pair that fits after they are installed.

In the mean time I did some PhotoShop work to get an idea of how they would look:

As long as you have yours installed by a muffler shop, they know too well how to install it. The ones that installed mine looks like a bunch of rednecks chewing snuff but they sure knew their job and after 30 minutes its done.

Cyril,

Funny you should mention that. Today I found a local shop that is know for doing custom work on Ferrar'si and Vettes... They say this guy knows how to weld (if it looks like a row of nickels then I will agree).

On the other hand I found some tips but they may a bit to long. It looks like the muffler could go futher back but I need the muffler in hand to get a good look. I should have everything done by Tuesday so I will put up a new post then.

Thanks for all the help!

It's been "another month or two" for the last 6 months. Must be a low priority development part for them...

Back in '01 or so Borla told the Stratus group that they'd have a catback system ready within "a month or so." It took over a year and pressure from mopar to get the actual part produced. The system now sells for about $650 and is marketed as both the "Borla catback" and the "mopar performance catback."

If Borla manages to produce a system for the Crossfire in less than a year I'll be impressed.

I'm going to stick with the stock muffler. Remember mufflers get louder and change pitch as they get older. Most of us have less than 10k miles I'd bet, so by 30 or 40, it's probably a whole another (louder & probably better) tune.

Me too!

I had a friend of mine (a NASA Class 4 Driver instructor) said it sounds sweet and will mellow and refine with time.

Soooo, I'm going to wait until I have a few thousand miles on mine before I make a decision to change.

Another approach is going to be available to us soon.......................
The SRT6 has a "More Agressive Note" mentioned in the specifications.
I saw a pair of SRT6s at the NATs but didn't know the exhaust was different at the time, or I would have asked them to fire one up.
I read somewhere that one was driven but there wasn't much said about the opportunity.
I have already checked with two Dealers and they have no listing yet. Maybe the SRT6 exhaust is even better????!!!!!!
Jimbo will be "Up Country" this weekend to make our Mountain Run and I'll be able to hear the Borla system.
I too, want a little more sound, especially after following the VIPER group to the MOPAR Nationals in Carlisle, PA a few weeks ago. The VIPER in front of me REALLY sounded great. I know 10 vs 6..............but I'm talking stock vs Borla!!!

The dealer that sold me my car had a silver SRT6 in the showroom. I was there while they were pulling it in (after being washed, maybe?), and it sounded pretty good. The tone was a bit edgier and it seemed louder. Of course, this is sound inside a showroom vs. sound on the road, so who knows.

be careful. an exhaust designed for a car with forced induction will sound different if it is installed on a NA car --
