Smile Battery ran down

I have a 2005 crossfire std. trans. Battery went dead while sitting with the key out and the Rest light ( the light on the button for recirculating air in the car ) on and the fan also on. I didn't think the fan would keep running with the key out. Why did the battery run down??

Gary, how old is the battery? Not real sure if you had the key out, anything would be on...

That is strange. I know there are some components that will stay on for a short time once the key is off, but not heard of that one.....I have to move one of mine, I will see what one of mine does....but I don't remember the fan continuing...

I"v never used that REST function - never gets cold enough in GA to use it!

I was thinking "REST" timed out in about 1/2/ hour. If it does NOT time out, and you let it run long enough, yes, you will have a dead battery. But I THOUGHT that the REST function automatically timed out!

This is an odd one. Are you SURE the alternator is charging? I know, silly question but fact is - we are not there to witness this!
I'd think the REST functions' current draw would be 3 to 8 amps. THat would mean a dead battery, even if the battery is NEW and fullly charged, in probably less than 24 hours.

it should have timed out....not sure why it didn't or if you may have left something else on and didn't realize it..... keep looking.... but I think we can rule out battery....for now...

With the key out of the car. I can turn the radio on push the rest button ( the light will come on ) and turn the fan on and it will blow. Should any of this be happening with the key out of the car.

Yes, that is normal. The REST should shut itself off after 30 mins. or if the battery falls below a certain voltage.
