Default Delphi XM Roady 2

seriously considering satellite radio and in doing my inital research i ran across this unit, the Delphi XM Roady 2. costs about $130 and with the mail-in offer, you get a free home kit. wondering if anyone has experience with this. the major features i noticed were the very small antenna (1x1) and it has a built-in wireless FM modulator...no wires directly to the existing radio. any thoughts?

I don't think you are going to be happy with fm modulation. Degrades sound quality.

I bought one and love it!

Used it on our trip from California to Yellowstone.
Worked great.

I can't tell the difference in FM modulation or the XM radio in my Honda.

Let us know if you get one and post pictures on how you mounted/installed it.

I have a Roady (not a 2) that I have had for over a month and absolutely love it. I mounted it (Temp) on top of the center console directly behind the mirror switch.
I'm into BLUES so it stays on EXIT 74!!!!!
BTW the Roady is silver that matches our console.
The Roady 2 is Gunmetal Grey and had a few more improvements.
I mounted the antenna in the corner of the right side of the dash. Once in a while I lose a signal for a second or two....but better than having the zit on my smooth body!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Goat,

I have and I am awaiting the cell phone bracket from the forum shop to us to mount it permantly. Currently I am using the air vent bracket that is provided with the unit when you purchase. You will notice some degrading with the FM Modulator but not enough to deter you from making the purchase. What is real nice is that you can change the background screen color to green which is real close to the color in our XF. I will post a picture when I get it mounted using the Cell phone bracket. Run the antenna under the passenger seat and up to the hatch. You will see what I mean when you got to install it.

picked it up last night. i like it already even though i'm still flippin stations all the time cuz it's all pretty cool. the antenna i ran all the way back to the bottom of the hatch, then up the side of the hatch to the middle top. trying to decide if i can live with the antenna outside on the roof or if i should bring it in and try the dash. for right now, i have the receiver mounted with the vent mount kit. don't think i like that cuz it's not a real good fit. the whole unit moves when i push buttons. i'll have to figure something else out this weekend when i have time to hide all the wires and stuff. and i totally agree the color change option is awesome...especially being able to almost match the green. except the dark blue color is awesome...and the purple...and the red. :-)

I'm definately happy with the Roady and just still debating where the final mounting will be. I ordered the remote and plan to experiment to see if it will operate the radio if hidden somewhere, like in the console or glove box. And once decided I am going to "hardwire" it to have a "PRO" look!!
It's a shame it is so thick..........the perfect place would be over the passenger airbag light, centered on the console. If I didnt need PARK it would work.........but I do!! Maybe the SixSpeed has enough room??

Im still waiting on the cell phone bracket so I can see if that will give a cleaner fit. I hate having it comming out of the Air vent but for now it will have to do. Maybe I will try the remote if you find it to work well.

That's a major advantage to the Roady-2 then, it's about 1/2 the thickness. 0.7" according to the Delphi site.

Wish I had seen this entry earlier!!!
Tasxfire04 was over at the house and picked up his membership goodies and I only noticed that the NEW antenna is @ 1/4 the size of the Original Roady and about 1/8 the size of the "PUCK" thats on my Bonneville.
The Bonneville has a Pioneer head unit with Pioneer XM receiver and the antenna is the first version of XM and is the standard size you see on the trunk and/or roof of most cars.
I'll compare the size of the unit itself next time I see Tom.

Here's a couple pics of my Roady 2 install after hiding wires this weekend. I am temporarily using the included vent mounts... the position isn't bad, but the unit is kind of loose, plus it blocks the vent. I think I will order the Profit mount. The third picture is of the antenna. I know, it's kickin' my butt too to mount it outside, but it is magnetic and has small silicon feet to protect the finish. I figure I'm already using the wireless FM modulation, and don't want to risk possibly degrading sound quality anymore by putting the antenna inside.

(sorry about the bad focus on this one...took it in the work parking lot this morning, and I notice the antenna is a little crooked from this angle)

This is MY preferred location for the Roady XM Radio.
The Roady 2 would sit lower since it is thinner. The other dimensions are the same.
Next plan is to hardwire it to free up the 12V outlet for my G-Timer.

Don't know about other folks but I did mine.
I used double sided tape and made some small spacers to go behind the radio since it is flat and the area I put it is wedge shaped. The antenna was mounted in the inside corner of the windshield on the passengers side of the dash. Wires were tucked in under the console and around the edge of the dash.
The first picture had a placement that I could use the clip and then the Roady could be removed and put in another vehicle if desired.
Since that is what you want (to be able to move the unit between cars) I would suggest a position like that.
If you plan to move the unit it saves a lot of time if you buy another clip, power supply and antenna.........................
BUT................after spending the money you can add a $ and buy another Roady and just add via the family plan for only another $6.95 a month.
