Default Rear subs replacment.

Hi guys, looking around on the forum and did not get anywhere on this, but my question is this, is there a better "subwoofer" replacment for the one already installed in the car?

I feel that the existing subs are not really "deep" enough in terms of sound but dont really want to fill my boot space up with a bass box.

???

did you miss the part where he said he didn't want to fill his boot (i.e. trunk) with stuff? That car you reference has about ZERO trunk space left.

The subs are only 6" drivers, and are pretty pathetic to be honest. I have looked at replacing them, but there would need to be custom work involved fabricating new holders

So I guess getting hold of lets say some Pioneer 6" subs may also be a bad idea?

If you want some bass coming out of a 6" driver you'll need a very good brand, I just don't think Pioneer is up to the task, I would use something along the lines of Focal, Image Dynamics or MB Quart.

Thos brands have 6" mid-bass drivers, but don't expect much from them, in this particular casi, size does matter.

My car is being finished as we speak, I'll post some pictures later, I installed a 12" sub and did not loose that much space in the trunk.

I am in the process of disconecting the factory sub and using a 12" sub and still using the factory radio . The enclosure fo the speaker is not much more than a cube thats 15' tall 12" deep and 15" side to side. The only thing that is slowing me down is how to get to the factory subs. dfswb has pics but it still is not very clear any help would be appreciated.

Default BASS

This is not just a simple question. Since I am in the car audio field I will say this. There are drivers on the market that will give you better bass. But getting good or great sound is more then just putting in a different driver. Altough it is a start, keep in mind! It is about equipment, power, & acoustics, and for bass...proper volume that the woofer are in is essential.

Having said this take a look at the following site: www.focal-america.com

Although Chrysler states there audio system is 240 watts I am sure that is a peak rating......as apposed to RMS.

Since I just purchased my crossfire I have not checked out the woofer cabnet behind the seats but I am sure I will.

The one thing I can say about the factory sound system for the position of the front speakers it has a good sound stage, and I agree that the woofers are weak. But what factory system is ever like your home or custom sound system......None of them.

Regards

I put the Infinity Basslink 10 in and pulled the subs out and put some Infinity Kapa's 5.2's in place of the subs. Sounds real good. Still have a good amount of trunk space left.

Had it professional installed so I don't know about pulling the back apart, I do know that a slight mod was made to put those Infinity Kapas in place of the factory subs, but the mod looks like it has always been part of the car.

I have a thread on this forum board when you go back a few pages.

Run the seats all the way forward and tilt them all the way forward. Probably have to take out the center storage bin (two 10mm nuts down in the bottom and it lifts). There are two round black ***** down low near the center console with two little pin-holes in them, some special tool unscrews them (me, I just used light application of some padded jow channel locks around the edge to loosen enough to unscrew by hand). Pull the black trim away from the door edges, now you should be able to lift up the entire piece that covers the area behind the seats.

To get those speaker grills out just use a small flat screw-driver and run it round the outside of them until you find the holding clips, push them inwards and they should pop out easily.

I didn't try removing the subs, I was just running wires for my illuminated sills and hiding the transformer un the carpet. Try Saldous' recommendation.

Saldous is correct - no need to remove center storage bin. Remove grills and door edge trim pieces and carpet easily pulls away from back wall. Check my album - I have some photos that might help.

Yes, we mounted to Focal tweeters on the side window vents, the original location didn't give us a proper sounstage so we used that location.

Thats superb, congrats and a great looking install too.

Quick question, do you have a part number for the tweater and also where did you wire the tweaters too, as I guess the tweaters on the doors still work?

Thanks again.
