Default Kickdown prob !

Hi Folks,

Had my Xfire for about 9 months and had been faultless much to the dismay of my mates who said I should have bought a beemer ! I am 23 and most of them thought I would never get insured but it only £900 which I thought was quite good for a V6.

Any how last few days when I kickdown initially it flies as it should but then when I pull in and go to overtake again I have either very little or no power. Normally if I stop and restart the engine it clears itself to go again but not always. If I don't touch the kickdown it will accelerate as it should. Did the throttle reset thingy - depress throttle 5 seconds etc but this did not help much. Now got the engine management light on but can't get the codes read till Monday. It's a standard Xfire can't afford an SRT - yet !
Any help will be greatfully received.

cheers jake.

Kickdown? I assume you're talking about down shifting?

I had a similar issue whenever I tried to take off, I felt like my car stopped pulling at around 90mph and wouldn't go past 110. I opened up the engine cover and turned out the intake was full of dirt and leaves. So I cleaned it out and that helped alot. Not sure where you live in England but it was pretty dusty where I was. Start with the cheap stuff first. I also changed out the spark plugs, I got autolite 2X platinum for $35 w/shipping from rockauto.com that seemed to help a bit and my mileage went up.

Whenever you buy a used car always:
Change oil + filter
spark plugs
brakes + rotors
Transmission fluid 5w-20 motor oil for manual tranny
Coolant
Brake Fluid

Changing out all of these will give you peace of mind and should anything be wrong with the car you'll notice it.

Careful passing on those single carriage ways, I had a dumbass hit me head on because she thought she could pass 8 cars at once.

Cheers buddy, when i talk about kick down it's an autobox i have and i mean floor it and the car shifts down to as low gear it can without blowing the box up. I had it serviced when i got it but worth a check for leaves and stuff blocking it.
When you say 'dusty where you were' do you mean in the uk ?

if it is a srt6 then replace your IC pump under E100, that should fix it ,,,car gets warmed up not hot but to the 1.2 way mark, you floor it most of the time it goes some times it just sits there like it has no gas, if yes then it has no cool water getting to the supercharger =ICpump under the pass head light you will find it. jim
