Default burning smell.

Hi Guys,

hit 135mph today for the first time, 2100 miles on the clock and I could smell a rubber like smell in the cockpit of the car.. is this normal? and can it be due to the fact its still new?

Default burning smell

I also have that smell. The dealer told me it should wear off. They said it was coming from the exhaust. It is like a sulphur smell. I figure somwhere around 5 to 6 thousand miles it should wear off because It is very faint in mine anymore and I have 5100 miles on it.

I very much doubt you could smell the exhaust when driving that fast! It is probably the air con / heating system wearing in. Not had this on mine though. I've just done 2,800 miles.

Did you smell it while you were doing 135 or just when you slowed down or came to a stop.

I smell that smell aswell and I bet most owners that have the auto smell it aswell. Its probaly your gear getting hot. My 300m had about 300hp and when i ran it past 100 I would smell the same smell as in the Xfire

Lol. I used to do about 1,000 miles a week and had a diesel car before this. Now I work from home I decided to get a car more enjoyable. As I do less miles the cost of ownership and depreciation is less so I could justify the car.

Have a look at a map. To drive the length of GB is (a lot) less than driving from San Diego, CA to Portland, OR, assuming you want to travel that distance anyway. On my map the area north of the Watford Gap is blank and marked, "There be dragons!"

Then factor in petrol at $5.45 a US gallon. (Based on 80p a litre and $1.80 to the Pound).

Now you see why we're not in a rush to go anywhere

I've just edited this into (hopefully) English from it's original total bollox. :?

Ge thanks for all the geographical info.I drive mine around about a 15-20 radius and still put about 80-100miles aday.Of course it hasn't rained yet this year.I won't drive in the rain.Since it usually only rains 1 day .

But actually if you drive less the XFire cost more per mile not less.Until the deprecation slows down.Or buy one used with low miles like yours.

<<PING>> Dan

I'm surprised you replied, I thought the $5.45 a gallon would have given you a heart attack!

Cheers

Since I got my XF on 23rd April, I have done 6200 miles in the XF and about 60 in the Voyager. Have a devil of a commute from Basingstoke to Staines each day (around 70 miles round trip).

As a family, we have put just over 4500 miles on the PTC in the same timeframe.

I did notice a burning smell when I test drove XF cars. The smell was quite noticable. I only testdrove automatics. I have noticed only a faint smell from the car that I bought and only after driving it very hard.
Thatfs all I know.

Don
