Default Cruise Control Disengages

My cruise control disengages when Im driving above 70MPH. When this happens the car immediately slows down as if I had applied the brakes. I can accelerate back to 70MPH and reset the cruise control and it stays on. Im at a loss as to why this is happening. Any suggestions?

Have you recently changed your tyres. When I had new tyres all the way round took about 2 weeks for the car to sort itself out. I just kept trying it and gradually the speed got better and better. not tried it above 70mph in the UK yet.

Thanks for replying.

No new tires or brake work done recently. I have noticed that the cruise control runs perfectly when set ABOVE 70mph. Ive had this issue intermittingly ongoing for about a month. If i set cruise control about 70 (ie 75 mph) I have no problems. Maybe she likes going faster!!

I just experienced the same issue. My cruise control disengaged when it was set at 75. The car slowed abruptly for no reason. I had my alternator replaced last week FYI.
